Software Update Question.

I believe that after fitting an Intravee/Alpine unit to our car (3.0si Coupe) a couple of weeks ago, I need to get the cars software updated.
What other benefits would there be from having the software updated apart from sorting out a few glitches with the nav/intravee system which I believe are related to the cars main software system needing to be updated? Or am I wrong and it is something else entirely?
Rybrook Warwick want £155.00 to do the update :o. Is this absurdly expensive or worthwhile?
And if it is over the top but necessary, can anybody recommend a good indy in the south Warwickshire area to carry it out at a more reasonable rate?

Thanks Merbrook.

just had mine at bmw specialist and he said there wasnt any software uprades for mine,

so unless theres a specific module you want upgrading not much point.

if you have sat nav which i presume you do, just do a nav firmware update, and update the intravee

what glitches do you have?

Hi biojo, we updated the intravee as we installed it.The main glitch that has started since fitting the intravee is that the nav does not want to work sometimes in the morning after the car has been parked on the drive for the night and it has been cold overnight (although not every cold morning).

Also the other weekend, we were returning home and the car had been running for a while so nicely warmed up when we lost use of all the functions available via the screen until we arrived home. Then let the car sit for quarter of an hour or so, then started the car and all functions returned.

When the screen is down you can still access the usual information (outside temp,MPG etc) via the dispaly in the instrument binnacle.

Regrding the firmware update we did this in March/April last year with a firmware update disc that came with the new satnav disc. Is there a more recent update than this ? and if so how do you get it without buying another satnav disc to update it?

Installing an Intravee should have now effect to the functions of the car. Only update as per above should be for Nav to V32 and Intravee which is 6.02-7125

as srhutch says , the intravee shouldnt affect sat nav side,

If it was the intravee having the odd crash etc or something not working then maybe.

if its just the sat nav side not loading the maps and your on v32. do you have a original maps cd in. it could be the laser thats getting weak. non original cds are harder for the drive to read

Thanks for the replies, I did wonder why the intravee should effect the nav system.

It could be coincidental though that just after fitting the intravee we have these problems.

Based upon your replies it would seem that it might be that the problem lies with disc which admittedly isn't oem  . I shall remove this and replace it with the original oem disc and see how it goes.

only other thing is could you have knocked the sat nad dvd system cables when installing the intravee

Possible I guess, but I don't think I did, also the problems occurred a couple of days or so after fitting the intravee rather than immediately.
Will have to try a process of elimination starting with putting the original disc in and go on from there.

Thanks.
