So what do you call an E89 35is that has no 35is features any longer?

Well, BMW wouldnt (shouldnt?) call it a full M car designation as it doesn't have a S code engine. But it does have plenty of M bits and obviously more power than an M40i, so id go Z4 M50i.

Hurrah..the correct answer!🤣🫡🙏🧐👍IMG_1231.jpeg

I know it's all personal taste & a bit of fun, but that m50i is so much the wrong answer IMHO.

You cheapen & tat up what is probably the best fettled z4 I have ever known (let's not mention colour) - as a grown man you have gone all 17 year old halfords on yourself.

So much effort, passion, time, money is sat in this car that you clearly love.

Classier option - if you think it so much better than a 35is (or just so much different) - why not just debadge it?

Or be proud.

You bought a BMW z4 35is, and have tweaked it beyond reasonable limits.

But it's still a BMW 35is.

Brutal..but true..

Does seem disproportionate the angst these create given how BMW has cheapened the M brand in so many ways..

Sadly as most have missed I put it on as a piss take.. I've done a few that most have passed people by..unfortunately for me I used the wrong 'automotivee 3m decal' glue..so they are well stuck and it will need a boot lid respray..which..I'm contemplating..

As for the M50i badge, I'm not sure I get the joke aspect, as it is at the expense of yourself, rather than those who question it. Sure, if you can live with it then fine but if it is something you personally detest (which I think it is from the hated modifications list you posted), then surely it is just yourself subjected to the joke?

It would be somewhat like tattooing myself with someone I hate and others hate, just to annoy the people who already hate it.

Professionally as I spent many years in product marketing, naming conventions were our bread and butter…both the ‘image’ that the name was intended to create and the logic of how the model range hung together ..with a desire to maximise profit as is the case with many products the cost of the products to make is relatively close but through marketing you stretch the upper price points as much as you can..

And what we found repeated here..for the vast majority of customers it worked really well, for the zealots and geeks less so.

Have to say that it’s never given me any qualms more it depresses me the predictability from the ‘purists’ ..

But of course shouldn’t start a fire unless you can cope with being burnt!-:)

Sorry to hear about the glue - I feel your pain - hopefully you find a way to release the badge without damaging the paint :(

Nope the solvent in the glue has melted the lacquer coat of the paint…at the least….my fault but I assumed a 3M adhesive specifically for decals wouldn’t have such destructive properties…good news is they won’t jet wash off…!-;)

On a slightly related note... ive got a BMW 330d which is remapped to better than 335d power levels, and ive wondered about a rebadge to something than never existed as standard. I thought a 333d or a 345d might both be fun, but then I thought nah, and am currently debadged.

Which probably means most think im in a boggo 320d, and *might* surprise a few people when I deploy full power.

Sounds like youre stuck with M50i, but 500bhp plus is enough to warrant it, so I reckon you're fine.

I watch them using jet washers while waiting for my wife to get coffee, I sometimes wonder that the bumpers don't come flying off.
