So I've upgraded from my 2.5i to a 3.0si

A friend of mine has the 2.5si, we've been on several trips together & my 3.0si actually uses slightly less fuel than his does, I don't know if it's the taller gearing or the greater spread of torque that does it but the 3litre uses no more fuel than the 2.5.

It depends how and where you're driving. If doing lots of motorway commutes then the 6 speed box will make the 3.0L variants no less efficient than the 2.5L ones. Also, it could be argued that the engine with less power will be revved higher more frequently, using more fuel.

Good points - I shouldn't have jumped in with 'bigger engine = more fuel consumption' without thinking about it some more.
