Snowfoaming

Leeds - you know where it is
Its what I'd asked Santa for, so got round to a quick wash today. The snow foam cannon came from CYC, dead easy to assemble. Instructions wasted a few minutes. You just plug and play. 300ml ish in the bottle, warm water for the rest, plug your hose in and off you go. Might do a bit of experimentation over the next few washes but I was quite impressed with the way it worked even without any trial and error adjustments. Got it on setting 2 (of 5) in terms of the amount of snowfoam.

Couple of pics for you below if you're interested. I definitely felt as if the wash that followed was quicker and easier. I guess you'd say I was converted.

PS: the white stuff in the pics is a mixture of snowfoam and real snow...

Think you've maybe got it too diluted, should stick more rather than run off as much as that if mine's anything to go by ?

Fair enough, I can up the settings a little. As I said, I'll need to try and play with it a bit but happy with its first outing. A bit more cling is probably all I would have wanted so I can either up the concentration or set it on 3 or 4 I suppose. Anyway, plenty of time. How do you use yours - higher setting or more snowfoam concentrate?

I have the CYC lance too, and usually put about an inch of valet pro ph neutral in and top it up with warm water. (I think the warm water idea came from the detailers forum)

This is the usual result...

That's exactly what I've been doing /using, I have now switched over to Autobrite Magifoam and have found it dwells much much better (think 15 - 20 mins).

Worth a trial next time you run low on snow foam.

Yup, that's what I'm aiming for Stuart - looks like I'll up the settings a bit next time, try 3 then 4. Yes, got the warm water hint from DW!
Thanks

which snow cannon do you use? I'm looking into this snow foam malarky (normally I'm a citrus pre-wash guy), but don't fancy getting a presure washer.

Looks good though

That connects to a hoelock fitting. You can buy the same thing for a pressure washer if you have one (I don't).

The pressure washer you use can make a huge difference also. I binned my Karcher after it was unable to produce decent foam. Now run a Nilfsik E130.

Will be trying my touchless wash again tomorrow. Will post up the results.

My little demo .. Kränzle 1151T with foam lance, bh-autofoam.. "max".. :D

I have a cheap Karcher with a PA lance and using Meguires foam it comes out looking like Trumans in the post above.
I have a pump dispenser on the Meguires bottle and it only needs 2 pumps and then filled with water to cover 2 cars completely with foam.

Anyone use Snowfoam like a shampoo? I mean, you put Snowfoam and rubs before you clear with water.
Not on the first application - the idea is that the snowfoam dwells and loosens dirt/grit on the surface, then you use a pressure washer to remove the remainder of the foam and all the dirt/grit that it's loosened. If you just washed the car with the snowfoam still there, you'd be dragging the dirt/grit across the paintwork

That said, I've had a couple of occasions where I've run out of decent shampoo and, after pressure washing off the first lot of snowfoam, I've applied a second layer and then washed using the TBM with just hot water in each bucket - worked fairly well for an emergency substitute

Two Bucket Method :-)

One wash, one rinse.
And a grit guard in the bottom of the rinse bucket so you can rub the washmitt over it each time you rinse and remove any small bits of grit/debris that it may have picked up. Lots of people, including me, have a grit guard in both buckets just to ensure that the washmitt never touches the bottom of the bucket
