Snow foam question

I am very much a novice at detailing but I do like having a clean car. My full clean is a wash, clay if needed, Polish and then a wax.
I've been seeing about snow foam and just ordered an autobrite lance for my karcher and magnifoam. I understand what ratio of concentrate to water, but the nob on the top where is a good place to have that set? Also should I avoid my soft top?

Thanks

About an inch of foam in the bottom of the lance bottle, fill up with water, adjust knob till you get the desired thickness of foam

I've had no issues doing mohair roofs with foam, also when finished run some fresh clean water through the lance to stop issues with the gauze blocking up :)

Thanks, Is there an ideal setting on the adjuster, thicker/thinner is there a right or wrong? What is the benefit or disadvantage of having a thicker mix?

I just go thickest, disadvantage is you run out quicker as it uses more but I have loads and it lasts for ages anyway. If your gonna foam you may as well do it right :D

No, if it's to thick it will just sit on top of the crap.

It seems to work a treat for me. I use a little less in the bottle and use warm water. Never had any issues with it sitting on top of the crap at all. cleans well for me. many variables of coarse as I tend not to ever have a car thick of crap in the first place, I drive a back road to work and do a quick jet wash hose every couple days.

Yep same as me. On thickest setting and this helps cling to bodywork and runs all that crap off bodywork. If too thin then it will just run off like water not really having a chance of grabbing that dirt on surface.

I would suggest avoiding the soft-top.
Few days ago I was foaming my car. Some of the foam stayed around the inner gap of the boot-lid. Didn't notice it. After a day I opened the boot and saw this sticky stuff sitting there. It was dried foam. Getting this into your soft-top drain holes would clog it up for sure. So GOOD rinsing the foam off the car and especially roof is a must.

I was about to start my own thread when I spotted this one. Apologies OP for piggy-backing on your thread!

I've just bought a new Nilfisk pressure washer (Compact 130.1). Two quick questions:

1. It's got a detergent bottle that connects to the lance. Is this sufficient for snow foaming or do I need a special foaming lance attachment?
2. What product is everyone using currently? I was thinking of getting Valet Pro Advanced PH Neutral. Any unanimous recommendations?

I've recently bought the same, the detergent bottle supplied seems to be useless. Admittedly I've only used it twice so far but have tried a weaker dilution and a strong one to get both ends of the scale and the result was the same both times... just a slightly soapy, aerated water coming out.

I think I'll be purchasing an Autobrite HD Foam Lance in time for my next wash, that should sort out the mix and get a nice foam coming through!

I've got a Nilfisk and bought one of these to go with it - http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/washing-and-drying/foam-pre-wash/snow-foam-lance-various-fittings/prod_371.html
Also using the Valet Pro Advanced PH Neutral you choose, both very good

I have just bought the Karcher foam attachment for £20, and it certainly produces masses of foam. I also bought 5 Litres of the CarPlan Hi-Foam Wash for a tenner, and it seems to do the job well for the money, although can't compare to the more expensive products, it certainly makes washing the car a much quicker process.

Do the more expensive products have much of an advantage, if so how?
