Snow chains...19' wheels

Hey all.

Anyone know which chains I should buy for the lovely Z? I am off to my apartment in the z this winter...it will be interesting enough just in the cold, but should it snow, well, it would be horrendous!

Being aware of this I am only taking them to comply with the law...compulsory Nov-April...and for extreme emergencies.

Help please?!?

BMWs winter wheel package for the E89 are 17s at around £1700 with winter runflats, very expensive however a decent set of 17s or 18s aftermarket alloys with a reasonable make winter tyre will be around 800 quid, still alot of money but if your going to a country which have bad winters its essential in my book. I compromised and bought some cheapish 18" alloys shod with Vredestein all seasons which came out at £900 all in, its alot of dosh but last winter in the snow it took all the stress away of wrestling a rear wheel car in deep snow.

I've tried winter socks on 18s on a 1 Series and they do work but a pain to fit and you have to take them off again on clear roads.

I use liquid snow chains most of the time...ACES btw...http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-tins-of-spray-on-tyre-liquid-snow-chain-for-snowy-and-icy-roads-in-emergency-/290979659758?pt=UK_Cars_Tyres_RL&hash=item43bfbd3fee

Will the snow tyres/wheels i am looking to buy for my X3 fit the Z4 too?

if so...18'ers it is!

Don't think the X3 wheels will fit, the E89 has funny offsets, I mean there is quite a difference between front and rear :?

I'm probably too cautious and would go the winter tyre route, after the 2010 winter farse in my M Sport 1 Series on summer runflats......never again......got the T-Shirt

you can get oem bmw winter wheels E89, only on ebay.de who deliver to UK then source your tyres like oponeo delivery two days still cheaper than the stealers here, about £1050...
cheaper also on tyres not to use staggered setup for the larger size wheels.

Looks like I will be throwing some chains that are the right size into my boot to satisfy the legalities along with some snow socks and liquid snow chain.

Along with some sincere prayers that it won't snow! (for once...I usually pray the other way!!)
