Is it my imagination or does activating the sport button somehow result in smoother gear changes? I was hardly using the sport button before but recently began using it for a change. Mine is 2003 3.0. It seems to me that the first to second gear feels smoother. I tried without the sport button activated and it didn't seem as smooth. Just wondered if anybody else has noticed this or am I slowly going mad!!!

You must be going mad, mine is a little jerky, refering to the clutch rather than actually gear change though ? am i going mad ?

I'm not a big fan of sport mode :(
find it a lot more jerky and it makes no differnce to the 0-60 or the top end...so why :driving:

I've only used sport mode a couple times. With a manual gearbox, all it does is makes the throttle response a bit faster and the steering stiffer. I can see a bit of an advantage for the automatic transmissions, though, as it holds the shift points a bit longer. If I'm in a line of traffic and I need to pass a few, then I use the faster throttle response of the sport. I see no difference in the shifting of the manual transmission, though. Maybe the quicker throttle response, in effect, makes you slip the clutch a bit more???

Sport mode, gear changes better = imagination running away :D

Its great to get on the power a fraction earlier than normal for a treat when you haven't pressed it for a while though

I'm experiencing the same. Mine's an '06 Z4M, and with sport button on, shifting is smoother. However, I still don't like driving with the sport button on though.

funnily enough spent this afternoon dabbling with sport in z4m.....

I'd agree the more agressive throttle seems to help neutral to 1 to 2 changes.

I would agree that my ability to shift smoothly is slightly affected when in sport mode, but that;s me not the car. Still trying to decide which i like better, off or on!!

It looks like I'm not completely alone :) Since posting I've done more driving and do still feel that it makes some difference. Like many of you I found the throttle too sensitive and jerky and didn't bother using it. I have found that if you drive with the sport button activated for a while you do get better with the throttle (not jerky) and once you are used to it you get a smoother gear shift. Additionally I like the firmer steering. Those of you that don't use the button give it a go for a few days, I'm kind of enjoying it :D

I use the sport button all the time when out of the city. Much prefer the snappier throttle response! I just turn it off when in built up areas. Because I use it all the time I do feel a difference when it's off. The throttle feels so much more "lazy".

I'll keep the sport mode off if i'm doing 45 or less, mostly because if i'm that slow it means I'm popping in an out of parking lots (not at 40) or stuck in traffic.
