Smokey exhaust

Since the weather has been getting colder around here I've noticed there's quite a bit of the usual condensation/smoke from the exhaust you get on a cold morning when not moving.

The thing is, how much is normal?
Most of cars around me when in traffic don't seem to be producing much at all, some do though. Is it simply down to the car? The exhaust temperature? is it a sign of something not quite right?

Cold car = lot of smoke. Hot exhaust = no smoke (or very little). So when in traffic, you will see all sorts. Nothing to worry about, is only water.

Kind of what I thought, just nice to have the reassurance. It just looked particularly bad this morning when I had a motorbike sitting behind me, shining his headlight through my exhaust smoke (somehow that sounds dirty :? )

It is the only time I feel like I am getting value for money with my M. 4 pipes bellowing smoke, getting my £450 road tax worth then :D

LOL, I'm glad my 3l falls into the lower tax bracket :P

I am sure as hell happy we do not have a tax system like that here where I live. :D Sorry about that for your guys. :( But give our crooks time they will find a way to tax us that way as well.

Smoke? I assume you mean water condensation, which is of course entirely governed by engine temperature, external air temp, etc and as pvr says nowt to worry about. Of course sat there with a 3l engine you will be producing a lot more than small cars around.

You were certainly not burning oil or anything when you left it running on my drive for 10 mins. so no worries at all. Just keep an eye on rad water level and oil level in case something has happened.

It's not oil smoke, just condensation. It was just a case of the 3l engine being cold and me being used to a little TDI polo that only really smoked on the very coldest of mornings.

The car seems to be using very little oil at all, not had to top it up since it's service 5,000 miles ago.

BTW. the headlight washer pipe had disconnected.... problem solved now though and new bumper bracket fitted along with the proper wheel arch rivets

Knowing the car a little I had no real worries. You'd have struggled on that last 'tour of Britain' if there was anything serious and it sounded perfect.

Amazed the pipe came off, must have not fully clipped on

Glad you got the new bracket.
