i'm thinking of replacing my transmission to SMG, is there any problem with smg ?! does any body recommend this change ?!!

most of the time i drive in tiptronik or what ever it's called i'm hating the auto coz i think it's not giving me the real power of the car and i don't feel like i'm driving a sport car !

so i decided to switch to smg. :driving:

i have a 3.0i 2003

I have read in numerous articles that there are pros and cons when trying to choose one of the many types of transmissions that BMW offers for our cars.

An individual dirver my prefer and choose 6-speed manual, SMG, or an Automatic. In the end, it is a matter of your own personal preference. All I can recommend is that you "truly" drive and "indulge" yourself with each type of vehicle (6 spd. manual, SMG & Auto) and then make a determination of which suits you best. You want to make a choice that you will be happy with and that you will not regret...As for me, I had driven all of the types of the transmissions, and I personally liked the SMG. However, and if I am not mistaken for our cars, I do believe that the SMG transmission was only offered as an option for two model years, 2004 & 2005.

Good Luck

It was listed as an option for 2003 as well because I was considering it but would have to have been ordered and I was not willing to wait... :)

This to my mind would make a challenging project from sourcing one of what was not that common anyway and all the related components (gear lever, pedal box, paddle shift wheel) and electronics, even assuming the simple mechanics from engine mating to propshaft can be sorted without issues.

Although there is little I would not try, this sounds like a project where it's probably best to sell your Z4 and buy and SMG then build back to any spec you have and like.

X3. The rear differential would also need to be changed as well from a 3.46 to a 3.07. It'd be cheaper to simply sell your Z4 and buy another Z4 with the SMG.

That said, I had an '04 3.0i SMG for about a year, it was actually pretty fun to drive; my '03 2.5i with steptronic didn't even come close.

yeah i thought about selling it but since i still didn't complete a year from having the car so i backed up.

i guess i'll forget about replacing the gear i'll stick to what i have.

what is the perfect whight for a wheel, well not too light or too heavy an ok wight ?! coz i'm planing to get a wheels but still don't know what to take i like the staggered wheels and i don't know if i would get 18 or 19 ?!! what do u thing guys any suggestions !!?
