when my car is in 1st gear, ready to set off, it decides to pop into NEUTRAL !!! all by itself ( giving me a warning beep before it does ), you then try putting it back into 1st, it refuses to and stays in neutral....the only way to ' knock the car back to it senses ' is to turn the car off and on again !!! extremely annoying when BOTH times were on a roundabout.....(.ps. both times it happened i was using the sequential mode )........any thoughts please :(

Hi
it could be many things causing it:

1. check bonnet alarm sensor is connected ok & connected properly !!! this is a common fault which thinks the bonnet is open thus throwing you out of gear.
2. Temp sensor on smg pump
3. check smg relays
4. check with dealer for latest software

Sorry to hear about that. Some thoughts:

1. Is your battery OK ? weak battery can play tricks on SMG
2. Have you tried moving into 2nd and starting from there - using D1/D2 etc. it will move off from stationary in 2 though typically will not allow you to change up to 2 if you're crawling too slowly
3. I've been watching an SMG control box on e-bay.de "just in case" but never bought it - not too expensive though no gaurantee that's the problem of course

Good luck.

thank you guys, it looks like you have been throwing up similar answers to the ones i have researched since i put the post up, i will go the through the check list as soon as i have time, so far its only happened twice in nearly 6 months
