Smashed drivers side mirror - what to do?

So walking out of the gym just now proudly back to my Zed, get in, close door, hear smash. Notice drivers mirror not there and on ground. Embarrassing. So I've cleared it up.
What do I do now? Friend has mentioned BMW will charge like £100 to replace. My boyfriend is over from Germany soon, is it cheaper if he gets it from there and I stick it on?

Hi Ruby, I've just done an eBay search " Z4 wing mirror glass" and there are loads, £9.99, I don't think that it will be too difficult to replace

Similar thing happened to me on the M3 I was driving by a parked car & they opened the door & knocked my mirror glass out of the mirror housing & I thought I had got away with it just popped it back in, but in time it's discoloured it & started to crack!

When it was in for a service on Wednesday at bmw they noticed it & gave me a quote...£302!! I thought it would be expensive but not that much, so I've ordered one off eBay hopefully it will look ok when it arrives.

But does it have to be "M" specific? :idunno:

I wouldn't think so, all the mirrors are the same, the ones on eBay are OEM quality and heated too

This option is certainly the way to go Ruby, hope you get it sorted easily. :)

What's the diff between the glass on eBay and BMW stuff??

You can't buy the glass alone from BMW but they will kindly sell you the complete internal section including heated pad for £115 :o whereas you can buy untinted stick on glass from wingmirrorman based in Bury (available on eBay) for around £10 including postage with the tinted version a couple of quid more.
The choice is yours!

What glue do I use?

This is the one I brought about a month ago. It's plain glass, they also supply tinted, and it comes with a peel off complete sticky backing. Very easy to fit.

Thanks Darren and everyone (not Woots :poke: ) I'm not good at this stuff
It seems neither am I!! My replacement glass came this afternoon & I have managed to smash the replacement while trying to fit it :headbang:

Just ordered another one off eBay now, at this rate it will prove cheaper for me to go to Beemer for the original replacement :(

You're stuffed for the next 14 years!

As long as you don't have the special self-tinting/anti-glare mirrors then the ebay ones should be fine, although I'd probably try to find one with the full-back adhesive rather than the ones with a few strips of sticky tape.

The one in the link posted above has a full back sticky adhesive. Sticks very well and you don't have to apply much pressure. I swung my mirror in the horizontal position when fitting to avoid dropping the replacement glass.

Dead right! I managed to totally ruin the original & then wrecked the replacement, DIY isn't my strong point!
