Smarttop Unit

I'm considering fitting a Smarttop unit after reading various threads. Have found some on Amazon for £280 which I believe is a good price but is only advertised as an E93 item. Would this be compatible with my E89?
 
yes they are the same unit they just fit in a different place but all the connectors and cables are the same I know as i have both

Thanks for the reply Jabber. You mention the E93 unit fits in a different place, so will I still be able to make it fit in my Z4?
 
yes the unit and cables are identical its just that in the e93 the roof control is behind the rear seats and in the zed the unit is in the boot
 
Put mine in yesterday….. again. took it out form my extended dealer visit for my bouncing window problem (cured).

Took me all of 10-15 mins.
 
I had massive issues despite the unit being fine and was never able to get the roof to operate as per this thread http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=61426
I wasn't told about removing the casings, though, which makes sense as I also had a great deal of difficulty getting the OEM connectors in when I removed it.
 
strange i have refitted mine several times and have never had any problems perhaps they had a faulty batch of casings
 
It may be that the variances are greater in the car than the modules. As I mentioned it took a lot of effort to get the original one plugged in well enough to work.
