Having had my E89 for less than 1 week, i thought the modifying should commence in earnest.

Just fancy having a little of what i used to have in my e85. That used to have a rein hold unit.

This Smart Top looks eminently better in operation and fitting. I hated cutting the wires in my old Zed!

Smart top Installed. It was as easy as an easy thing on a good night out with lots of vodka,

now i have.

1. one touch open and close roof from inside the car
2. one touch open and close roof from outside car via remote fob.
3. fold in door mirrors with remote fob
4. one touch open / close of roof when moving at up to 40 Km/h
5. unlock doors on key removal
6. comfort access to boot (trunk) when roof is stowed.

I'm in heaven..... hope it don't go wrong!

5. unlock doors on key removal?

Mine does that anyway...or is this something different?

i get the impression this wasnt standard on cars older than ours

Same here. My doors unlocked with key pull anyway.

Also mirrors can be set to auto fold on lock and auto open with drivers door handle. Looking at the thread on key cloning this is useful as I have occasionally left my car open overnight. Now if the mirrors are out I know it's unlocked

Comfort access means with roof down hold boot button and roof will half close to allow better access. Ahain I think mine did that anyway.

how does the comfort access work?

As has been said in an earlier post, when the roof is down and taking up all the space in the boot and there is just a small gap to access the boot space, a 4 second press of the open button will take the roof out of the boot, close the lid and pop the boot lid. when you'd done, press the open button again for 4 seconds and the roof re-stowes it self. I like this feature.

as for the key removal and open doors, i only had mine for 5 days before i carries out the mod and really can't remember.

Of and it a 2011 car, but it did have roof operation whilst moving at 20mph as standard.

Can you code the E89 like the X5 where you can set:

- Wiper completes the wipe when removing key / switching off the car
- Hazzard double blink (flash, flash, pause, flash, flash)
- Digital speedo in instrument cluster
- Eject keyfob when stopping engine

I don't know PVR.... but can you program the X5 roof to fold in to the boot? :poke:

Got one of these for my dads E89, but haven't had any luck installing it yet. Kept getting the roof failure icon on the cluster :(

Will be having another shot in a few weeks.

it truly was a piece of pi$$ to do. I have read that the connectors and their seating are what causes the fault condition.

It took me a couple of goes to seat the connector properly as well... The light goes from steady to flashing when all is in order. Persevere....

NO, mine just lit up and went out.

when i was testing it it was flashing like a hard drive lamp, i suppose it was communicating on the CAN bus.

Yeah I figure that's all it was, I was getting the error after removing the module as well until I wiggled the cables. Couldn't spend any more time on it that day, just needed to get the roof working again.

Did you follow this bit in the instructions?

8. Connect the original plug to the matching socket on the wiring harness (also making sure the lever locks into place). Connect the SmartTOP module to the plug on the harness. The green LED on the module should light up briefly (module starts up) and after a quick tap on the unlock button on the remote, should blink in a regular pattern (data bus activity). Put everything back together. We recommend leaving the USB cable installed and accessible for easy firmware updates or module configuration via laptop.

I have to say it installed fine for me and worked 1st time.
