Was cleaning the roof today when I noticed a thin piece on the hinge mechanism was snapped (drivers side) in the first picture below is the passenger side, still intact, the second picture drivers side with it missing. Anyone know what it is for and are replacements available?

yes, it's called the anti-trapping circuit. It prevents the softop material from getting snagged in the mechanism while lowering or lifting the roof.

Anti-trapping circuit, left BMW part 54347119631

Anti-trapping circuit, right BMW part 54347119632

Cheers! I guessed it wasn't structural as its far too weak

errr, yeah

I ended up with about 4 buckets of what looked like pea soup

Bet it looks superb now Rich, it's a VERY tidy car. Hope the brakes are OK.

FYI - I'm doing the CDV mod this weekend, as soon as I've done mine I'll sort out popping over to do yours.

Yep it looks miles better now. All nice and clean but I spent so long on the roof I left the alloys - need to give those boys at Lepsons something to do tomorrow...

Thanks again for the brakes - survived a top down blast to Bluewater Saturday :-)

The 'anti-trap' kit arrived, will have a go at replacing it this weekend. Check yours people, it's pretty flimsy and from what I've read online, people either don't notice they have broken, or don't bother replacing them,
