Small oil leak possible rocker cover gasket ??

Hi all I left the Z4 standing for a couple of weeks while I went on holiday and when I started it up on return got a little bit of smoke coming from the engine bay left hand side as you face it .

Looked around and saw that a tiny bit of oil seems to be leaking around the front where the half moon is and on the rear left side .

My car is a 2.0 4 cylinder . I have had a price for the kit from BMW for around £101.00 and about £190 to fit £290 . Formula one day that if I can get the kit they would probably charge around £50 labour . It doesn't seem that difficult .

When I changed the plugs I noticed that the furthest plug in the canal looked to have a very slight bit of oil .

Any of you guys had similar and what prices did you pay to sort ....
Can anyone recommend anyone Crewe are ??

Get clued up and diy fella.
My m54 was leaking, dropping the slimy stuff onto the hot manifold and smoking away like a rasta after payday.
Swapped a new gasket in and solved the problem.

Thanks Chris could do with some advice by anyone who has done the 2.0 plenty on YouTube for the 3.0 which seems quite easy . The 2.0 has some some silver cylindrical item in the middle of the two spark plug tubes .
Can do the strut , get the coils out need to sort the gasket out . £100 for a bit of rubber is rediculous .

When changing rocker cover, good practise to change the rubber washers as well. I learnt this on my third attempt on my old E39 3.0 M54.

Sorry, can't comment on the 2.0 engine but changing rocker cover on M54, 3.0 is straightforward and about 1 hour labour if they spend a decent amount of time thoroughly cleaning the surfaces before refitting.

Was that recent how much did it cost to rectify ??

It was a couple of years ago, bought a new pump on Ebay for £70 you can get a seal but tried that and it still leaked after a while.

Just had mine replaced, the rocker gasket was from BMW (saw the reciept for it on the desk 8) ) £83.34 and 1 hour labour £45.00

And of course B@$TARD VAT. :x

Steve Slattery BMW Loughborough.

Cheers, tug

Just bought the gasket to do my 3.0 M54 , I think it was around £42 from my local BMW dealer. Did it on my last one it takes about an hour or so, probably longer as I'll have a cuppa half way through .

It's not hard at all and some people on here have done wonderful how to guides. It's real credit to Z4 owners.

Whatever you do, avoid the cheap £10 gaskets from eBay.. They leak! Ended up replacing mine with an Elring (quality stuff) from euro. Cost was about £28 with the vat for my M54B30.
