Hi all,

After fully detailing my z4, I went to a freinds bbq today. I was told half way through that my car alarm was going off when I went out there someone had hit my beloved car. The front bumper is beyond repair as it has a crack through it, and I believe the tray below might have a crack. Luckily someone spotted who hit the car and it was someone who was at the bbq but they drove off.

I'm in Essex and wondered how much for bumper, tray and spray.

Find out who did it and go to the police, hit and run is an offence, get the shites to pay for it.

Yeah, no reason why you should be out of pocket if it was witnessed and the driver is known. Failure to stop and failure to report are taken quite seriously (it's a recordable offense so would result in a criminal record if convicted).

Couple of things I should mention, the house we was at is 22 acres so we were parked on my mates land, so was private land. Don't know if that matters or not. They have text my friend and said they will pay, they aren't short of cash. So will this cost a fortune ? Cheers all I know very little about body work pricing thanks.

In that case take it into a body shop and get a quote, then let them know the damage to their wallet.

Just don't want it to go through insurance as I have to tell work and as a car through company might be on the cards don't know if it effects that :/ thanks all

If it's not going through the insurance and they're paying.....

Might be the chance to sort any stone chips on the bonnet along with the "damage" to the bushes due to the impact.

Are the headlights leaking after being hit?

Not forgetting the damage to the roof motor.

You don't have to, you need to get a quote right ?, so go to a body shop and get a quote for cash...sorted

Private land is irrelevant, damage has been caused and failing to report this is an offence. You would be wise to report the incident to the police to cover your back - I'm sure there are plenty on here who can tell of incidents where people have offered to pay and then not delivered on that promise.
Get at least a quote from BMW and an independent and see what the guy says - get EVERYTHING in writing though.

I don't think committing fraud is a good method of teaching someone a lesson...

It's possible they never even noticed they'd caused the damage. I don't know what kind of motor they were in, but a gentle parking shunt from a Range Rover or similar might go unnoticed, and still be enough to crack the bumper. At least they have said they'll pay - claiming more damage than they caused is taking the piss. Just IMO of course.

On my previous Z4 I had stone chips fixed while getting a chip out of the paintwork fixed that a neighbour had made. No guilt at all at giving the extra costs to the neighbour. At least he was decent enough to come to the door as soon as it happened to let me know he tripped getting out of the car and took a chunk out the paintwork with his key.

Maybe looking at the bushes etc. would be taking it a bit far but I'd certainly be looking at getting any stone chips fixed up to £100 - £200 worth of work at the same time as any work being done to the front of the car and passing the costs on. Again I would not feel any guilt!

Thanks for all the replies, the car is all pretty much perfect other than the mangled bumper. Will try to get some quotes tomorrow. Anyone know if you have to book an appointment with sytner? Is it cheeky to ask bmw for some money off a service if I get body work done through them at the same time?

Btw there's not much to photo apart from some broken clips.

So your neighbour did the right thing and fessed up at doing some damage to your car and you still ripped him off.
