Sloshing Sound

I've noticed on the odd occasion that when I break, I hear a sloshing type sound. I'm guessing it could be the gas shifting around in the tank. I only had around a 1/4 tank of gas the first time I heard the sloshing. Then today, I heard the noise again with 3/4 tank of gas. One other important thing to note is that I didn't hear the noise until after a decent rain. I just got it back from the dealer after scheduled maintenance, so is this something I should be concerned about?

Anytime I hear sloshing, it's always gas in the tank, 1/2 tank, 3/4 tank...doesn't matter, there's air in there and room for sloshing around. Could it be you're a bit more sensitive after it rains since that is when you first noticed it? Not many places for water to hide in a Z :wink: .

I'm looking forward to other's opinions.
 
Just so long as it isn't bubbling/gurgling....that means coolant problems. I'd probably say check you lvl just to be safe, but I doubt you'd hear it sloshing. (Well in my truck it does :P) I've never myself noticed any sloshing in the Z4. Not unless you have like a half empty bottle of liquid of some sort in the trunk.
 
^^oh damn, so true! I was driving myself crazy earlier this summer wondering what the hell that 'noise' was I was hearing: It was my 1/2 drank bottle of water!

And I notice 'sloshing sounds'much more in my Silverado as well, Aebous. 'Course, driving a tanker will numb you to just about any 'sloshing' noise.
 
Lol true. My truck has a half full containter of anti-freeze just in case and it sloshes like crazy.
 
After four Tanqueray and tonics I notice a sloshing sound even when I'm walking, if if can walk.
 
Might be worth making sure its not water sloshing about by the hood hydraulic pump with a blocked drain hole ?
 
Many others have experience this. I responded in the other posts, so sorry for repeating.I had this problem in my 2005. Anyway, water can get trapped in the rocker panels under your doors. Don't ask me how it gets there, but its usually after very heavy rains, parking at an angle, etc. It sounds like water is in your floorboard when you brake and will drive you crazy. Under the rocker panels on each side of the vehicle you will see plastic plugs where the jack is designed to be placed, push them forward or side to side to release the water. You can also drill holes in them to prevent it from happening again. You would think the brains at BMW would have solved this, but like so many other problems they seem to think is acceptable for us to handle. :roll:
 
Have you got a roadster, if so then check your roof drain holes as it sounds like there blocked and holding water. This can damage the roof motor. Do a search in how to section on procedure to clear them.

you mean the side skirts right?
 
Could be the roof drain holes blocked, common thing which leads to the roof motor failure.

Also check the windscreen scuttle drains. At least one member here got water in the rocker tube under the door when one of these drains was blocked.
