Slight Hesitation - BMW Fault Codes

Evening all,

I have the pleasure of owning a 2003 BMW Z4 3.0i SE manual with 43k on the clock.

All is well apart from a missfire / hesitation below 2000 rpm when accelerating in a high gear (3rd / 4th). It does not always happen and everything is perfectly normal above 2000 rpm. Fuel economy is fine and there are no abnormal noises / smells.

I asked my local garage to run their diagnostics and it came up with '10141 - fault not recognised' or something similar. I thought it may be a crankshaft position sensor, MAF or coil pack but I would have expected those to have registered.

Has anybody heard of these symptoms or know what the code means?

Thanks

From my limited knowledge, this sounds like the Vanos issue?

x2. Reset your throttle, that could possibly do the trick (and it's free!).

Could also be a coil breaking down. 10141 - not on this list http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9444&p=191792&hilit=+fault+codes#p191792

For reseting the throttle bodies is the routine:

Ignition on for 10 secs.
Ignition off for 10 secs.
Ignition on for 10 secs
Start engine.

I have seen that somewhere else but would appreciate some confirmation.
