If its that bad I think I would be emptying the room of everything else, taking pictures off the wall, screwing doors shut and piling as many duvets over the car that you could get your hands on.
Apart from that he is a twat. Whats the point of sitting there endangering your own life just for a car that if its going to get damaged it will whether you are sitting looking at it or not.

To be fair if he's got a modern Cat 4/5 rated house he might not be as dumb as it seems. We got caught up in a Cat 5 (Wilma) on the Yucatan coast in 2005 and were actually refused evacuation by the authorities because our hotel was hurricane rated. It turned in to the single most frightening night of my life barricaded in the room with emergency rations! The next hotel on the strip was older and the roof collapsed and the whole area and local town were literally shredded but thankfully we were OK. It turned out those who were evacuated were left in dreadful conditions and probably more danger. The enterprising locals soon cashed in selling "I survived Hurricane Wilma" T shirts, so I quite literally have one :P

But saying all that there is no way I'd volunteer to sit out even 'just' a cat 4, even for my M3, it's fookin' monstrous!
