Sidelights - LED's or Blue Bulbs?

Just a quick questions, since upgrading my headlights to an HID Kit, the sidelights are pretty pants (they look even more yellow than before). Does anyone have experience in fitting LED sidelights without any problems or am I better off installing just regular bulbs that look blue when off and burn more of a whiter colour when on?

Anyone with some pictures or comments would be most welcome :)

Now, I have received some clear lense headlamp units (halogen but I retrofitted HIDs in) from BMW but still haven't got around to fitting them. I looked into whether there were any sidelight replacements for the 501 bulbs which as you have stated will look quite yellow next to HIDs.

I came across the following which are flat blade shaped oblong LEDs with circuitry/resistor inbuilt to prevent bulb failure warning lights from appearing. Heres is the link: http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/error-...md-led-sidelight-bulbs-xenon-white-p-495.html

They fit easily but I havent tried them out so I cannot confirm that they work as such! The nice thing about them is that the LEDs don't point forwards which you find with some LED bulbs. They do sit a little into the bulb surround but I don't think this will be a problem.

Just out of interest did you go for 6000k or 5000k (or different) colour HIDs?

Hope this helps.

Arif :D

Run a search as this has been covered a couple of times.

You can fit LED's into the sidelight slot but there are 2 issues 1) they project out and you can often see bit of circuit board (liked those linked above) unless you get special domed ones and 2) you need a 5w ballast resistor to prevent bulb out, unless again you have special versions with it built in.

I had them on mine for 3 months befre I did the CCFL AE convesion.

I think LED's are going to be the way forwards rather than whiter bulb like sidelights. In the end I went for 5000K HID Kit and it's so good. It's slightly bluer but it resembles xenons you see Range Rovers and Porsches.

So next question.. anyone managed to fit LED's to a facelift with the halo with success?

I have triend two varieties of LED sidelights.. the first didnt even fit in the hole and the second didnt light the entire ring - but the part it did light up looked nice and white!
