Should I upgrade

I currently have a 35i Sdrive manual with 30k miles on an 09 plate

However after buying I wish I had got the DCT gearbox, Nav, Bluetooth and Cruise.

Now I have seen a car at a BMW dealer down south - http://usedcars.bmw.co.uk/Z/3.0i-sDrive35i-M-Sport/Bury-St.-Edmunds/2755922-605182734-3497012.aspx?srcmdc=se_na_re_

Its the same colours and interior to mine which I love and has the things I would like, except possible the 19" alloys.

The dealer is offering the car for my car + £10000.

Am I being mad and should I get my head examined

I reckon you'd be getting approx 3k less than you should for yours, however you'd avoid the private selling hassle, and be able to have the new one pretty much straight away, and if you wait they may well sell it before you get cashed up. All depends if you can afford it obviously. If you can then go for it if it ticks all your boxes, as you'll always be looking and longing for the spec you want. Life's too short etc.

Best of luck with the pacing up and down thinking, I know that feeling..!

We only have the 23i on a 10 plate. We do have bluetooth and cruise but no nav.
There is no way I would add 10 grand (it would probably be more) to ours for this.
Never wanted an automatic and never even looked at any when looking to buy ours so wouldnt have bought the top of the range model even if we could have afforded it.

its nice but if you were upgrading by 10k, you should really be going for the 35is rather than 35i with only a few options that are different to your existing car

I agree with this. Your car plus 10k for a few bits more isn't really worth it imho but hey it's your car and if you really want it then why not.

What extra over the options will I get from a 35is, apart from the extra 35bhp

This is in addition to the 35i M Sport. I note that OP does not advise if they have M Sport or Non M Sport version as that also has an impact on trim spec and second half/part ex value. You WILL get more for a M Sport trim level.

DTC as standard, Adaptive suspension, sports exhaust which is 10bd louder, sport steering set up.

Although not listed as a M Sport model specifically, it is a M Sport model. It's also the N54T engine also and only found in the 35is and 1M Coupe. The 35i is the N54.

It's also a rare and desirable model and holds value better than the 35i.

Its a 09 as stated. I dont think they did a M Sport back then.

So a couple of questions

Is the adaptive suspension different to the 35i suspension which can be changed from normal to sport?
Is the sprt setting in the 35is disfferent to the 35i sport setting
Am i coreect in thinking tuning for the N54 will be different for the N54T

M Sport variation arrived not long after launch and do keep in mind that an 09 reg can be registered between 1 September 2009 and 28 February 2010. However we will assume non m sport model hence the lower valuation.

Yes, adaptive suspension is an optional extra in all E89s apart from the 35is. Having never driven anything other than my car I can't comment on how the feeling on either suspension compares.

The sport setting? I assume we are talking about putting the car into 'sport' or 'sport plus' again it will need someone who's driven both to confirm the difference but if you wanted to use the 'launch control' then you need a DTC box.

The N54T has higher bhp and overboost as well as different 'tuning' via the ECU.

Sounds tempting to me, 2 years younger, 17k miles less.

Auto and nav are great additions also, having had a 23i without these I would miss them now. Couldn't really care less about cruise, rarely use it.

to help out angie here as i have had a 2012 20i. the sport button in models without adaptive suspension does not firm up the suspension, it merely improves throttle response and maybe gives a bit more turbo boost pressure on turbo models. sport+ turns off traction control. adaptive suspension is an option on anything other than a 35is and costs about £1500

Mine is the non sport however 09 will run from March 09 to August 09. 59 would be August 09 to Feb 10. In March 2010 the M Sport was introduced

Ah yes apologies. Not sure why I was thinking that. And I've just realised you are the OP.

Have you thought about going and trying a 35i with the DTC or have you already done this? Even just to see how it feels in comparison to your current car.

Just had a look at the car on the vin decoder, it also has load through with the transportation bag, exterior auto dimming mirrors and extended lighting as it looks to have had the 'comfort package' added. Shame no comfort access. But it's not a bad looking car on paper.

From what others have posted on this forum at various times the 19" wheels on the standard 35i sport suspension (i.e. not adaptive) is not the best combination - a trifle too 'sporty' for some I believe!

Going to have a go with a DCT car.

Vin Decoder??? Does it have active suspension

Basically you get the VIN number, easy enough to do via the BMW Warranty site here: https://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/BMW/CarDetails/Index

And then you put it into this site: http://www.bmwvin.com/?vin=WBALM72090E411128&recaptcha_challenge_field=03AHJ_VuvPxbhDhvWXYP2LzoaGvqyy9JPWjYPIoAH0Ge6ELXuQh8qmk1pipifF97vzJ33UdHGmCdIrb2bVTJ1nlflAa1HVXxv4sUh55ePnaiY5JaPjKI3qS_rvAvheLAr8LNTnWMh3d29XuoTbafggA4KsMdfgQUKEc0ZSjy8_SVF24uOFOIPzUUA14IqNscEJw9gf01g0PErRNkBuDNTw1gTTEOuOOfP0bnS9m6ifmo36M3FoDZlYsiGUaHA6Bi6vTSnwM7o3ClcSOArQ9PuO1US2LLKe0X7pLw&recaptcha_response_field=16820 and it will give you the spec of the car

However it doesn't have the adaptive suspension
