Hi all,

I am slowly losing the will to live....
Left Hand side of the boot on my 2004 Z4 Roadster has been filling with water every time it rains.
So far the rear wheel has been off and the two tubes n bungs have been flushed out.

Is there another channel running along the ledge where the rear window and hood meet the bodywork that I am missing?
Not sure what else to do, it's doing my nut in :headbang:

Shipkiller has posted pictures etc on this site which loads of people found helpful, but I think the link is dead :tumbleweed:

Can anyone save my sanity....

can you climb into the boot with a torch while a friend puts a hose on it?
Should be able to pinpoint the leak this way :)
regards

You could try removing the internal trim, drying the area thoroughly and carefully placing kitchen roll all around the edges with masking tape which should highlight where the leak is located? I have done this before and it helped locate the approximate area of the leak. Crude but may help?

You've posted a 2004 e85 enquiry in the e89 2009 onwards section. Entirely different car and you may get better answers in the correct section.

So many people do this, staggering.. It even says 2009+ in the section heading.

I had this on my coupe, simple fix & solved it completely. Seems to be luck of the draw with these, my wife's car was older than my coupe & didn't have any issues. Good news is they are very cheap to replace.

If it's not the boot grilles then another possible culprit could be your left-hand roof drain could be blocked causing a pool of water which then exits into the boot whenever you go round corners etc. Worth putting the roof down half-way and having a look into the area and seeing if there's any standing water there.

The fasteners that locate the rear wings on in the guttering should have a seal at the base of the insert. If longer screws have been used or the original ones over tightened this can puncture the seal. Had this on mine and it took ages to identify.
Good luck! Dell.

It's been moved - would you like to delete this comment? :poke:

Well i finally gave up and put it in the garage.. They had it for 3 days, plenty of water poured and stripped all of the inner trim out and undid the bracket mounts etc... we had already cleared out the drainage tubes a couple of months ago, so no issue there...water stopped seeping in once the rubber seals and brackets went back in..so it seems it was an out of place rubber.. 120 quid lighter..but a dry boot :0)

Glad you finally got it sorted.
I think water can get into the boot if the car is parked nose down on a slope as the inner gutter for the boot fills up then overflows. Always try and park nose up if it's hilly.
