Shell V power

I use it when I can, shell have just closed the closest garage to me...

cars feel better with it, but I mainly get it for the cleaning properties.

there is a thread about the gains / placebo effect on here somewhere...

Lol! There is a thread on this on the forum. It's the only fuel I use in my cars and the other half has to use it. I've always found I get more mpg and it helps keep the engine clean. You do however need to buy it from a shell with a high turn over because if it doesn't sell well it'll be lying in the tanks going loosing RON.

I was surprised that the handbook says 95 ron recommended when I've had other BMs E46 330ci which recommended 97 ron (super unleaded).

As I've not had the car long and not done too many miles I can't say too much but I've also not used normal unleaded so can't compare but one of the guys has done a good comparison.

To see the effects you'd really need to have filled up a couple/few times to have just super in the tank. At an extra 8p a litre some people think that's a bit too much for the small gains made but it's each to their own. I know it keeps the engine clean and for me that's important.

Lol, recent thread below... I've found it worthwhile and now converted

Mine has V Power and seems better for it.

On a similar note tried the petrol injector cleaner following a Fifth Gear report Oma VW Corrado - cleaner did the trick on the test and did same for my 3.0Si without mucho cost, even the Scots would go for this

Has anyone ever used Shell V power petrol? is it worth the extra?

cheers

Many a fine discusion on this subject. Certainly for the M, the answer is YES.

When v-power came on the market, some of my fellow students on the car mechanic school tested v-power in a dirty engine. They ran it three days and disasebeld the Engien the Engien wasent enny cleaner

Can't say I've ever taken my engine apart to check if it's clean. Though my Fiat mechanic used to swear it kept an engine cleaner, internally, that many other brands he had tried.

The important thing for me and the Scotsmen in this thread  , is that, with current price differentials, it improves fuel economy, in comparable driving conditions vs lower octane fuels.

For that reason I also use 99 Ron in my little Mazda, even though that will happily run all day on 95 Ron

I use 99 Ron on my cars. 1st tank that dealer filled my 35is I got 200miles with, maybe just playing didn't help. Last 2 tanks of 99 Ron I have been getting about 280 miles to a tank. Think it's worth spending the extra.

way shoud the car go further with high octane ?

The point with hight Octaine is becuse high presure inside the cylinder, typical for turbo Engiens and high power cars, the high octane is making sure that the fjuel dosent self ignite? true or fals?

I don't why but it works!
The checks I've made in the past with both the old 2.2i Z3 and the current e89 showed typically 10% increase in mpg.
For some unknown reason the same increase has not been apparent in my diesel daily drivers

Because it allows the ECU to run max ignition advance for more power, high octane fuel won't trigger knock sensors like lower octane fuel would (lowering ignition advance/power)
The ECU is constantly fine tuning your engine settings, 99ron fuel allows it to optimise them

There was a very detailed report on tesco Momentum 99 RON some while ago. I copied it's I will try and find it. It's on an old laptop and I need to import some legacy data.

I tend to think that if the BMW say 95 RON, anything above is just guilding the lily as the electronics will just back everything off?

We are only playing a hunch when we say the car feels better , unless somebody has done a back to back dyno run of course. As for MPG I've never had identical journey in a car yet. Something is different every time.

As above post says, just debating!

Well hopefully I don't have to do a run on normal fuel back home but yesterday I filled the car with a tank full of V Power and have driven 340 miles and still have 1/3rd of a tank left and I wasn't hanging about. I wasn't setting a lap time either but well impressed. My E88 would have needed a full up by that point. Infact did the same journey in a 120i auto last September and the fuel warning light popped up on the last 5 miles of the journey. It also ran V Power and was a gutsy little sod.
