Sharing my pain... again. Are you bored yet :-)

I am trying to pace myself right now, as I am approaching my 3,000th post and have not decided whether to get soppy like JimmyPop or go one-liner simple like Andysat. Thing is, this place is great for so much more than swapping Z4 stories, talking mods or asking Stoopid questions - it's like a virtual pub with all your mates in it waiting to have a laugh, solve the world's problems and utterly take the pi$$ at the slightest hint of an opportunity. Which brings me to this post which is, as the title says, sharing a little pain...

Remember how I just spent most of £800 on my car, and now have to get an oil leak fixed on SWMBOs Honda ? So you'd think, it's a 2003 Honda Accord, 106k miles, never broke except things that wear out like battery, starter motor, water pump - must be a seal gone, or a perished rubber hose... Booked in for Tuesday, the leak is small but keeping the oil topped up, not driving it too much. Then today it dumps the whole litre of oil I put in it last night on the driveway after SWMBO got back from town. Not great. Called Green Flag, chap came out, had a poke and reckons it is coming from the oil filter, but can't see where. Gets his extendable mirror out, looks down the back of the engine block... Finds what looks like three cracks in the block. I kid you not - he showed me one, looks like a crack to me

Called up the guys who did my car (where it is booked in anyway) and they said to have it recovered to them and they will look at it Saturday morning instead of Tuesday - as an aside, I am quite impressed. Anyway, the mechanic was surprised, sceptical of the diagnosis but said it may be possible to fix even if it is cracked... I'd love to think you can do the equivelant of radwelding it, but is this true ?

I am very nervous - if the car is buggered I won't get any insurance payment, and of course there is no warranty... I wonder if anything else can go wrong this month

Thanks for reading - I feel better now. Well, a little. Hopefully I'll get a chance to post something other than bloody nightmares in the near future, preferably accompanied by some nice new pics of my car. Mission for the weekend

Commiserations Bing. Hope you get it sorted as cheaply as possible. I've had weeks like that in the past with cars (and houses for that matter) so you have my sympathy !

I feel your pain. Maybe they'll weld it. Time to offload it once done though. I wonder if Honda would do a goodwill? 3 cracks in the block sounds like a fault. If you don't ask you don't get...

Tapatalking...

I've had a few things like this recently, when you genuinely start laughing at bad news about your car you know you have had enough.

Thing is, a year from now you'll look back and wonder what you were so worried about.

Good luck.

Sorry to hear this. Cars can sometimes be such a money drain :( Fingers crossed its not too expensive.

Cars can be a real PITA sometimes... I had a hugely expensive summer last year due to a couple of unexpected large expenses that coincided with insurance renewals for two cars, paying for a holiday, and membership and exam fees for work. It's easier in retrospect, even though it all seems a big additional stress now. At least these are just material things. Hope it's sorted cheaply and quickly.

Thanks everyone

Just got a call from my Indy, told me to cheer up - in his words "the recovery driver was talking complete sh1te, engine blocks always have casting marks that can look strange". It was a blown seal, now all fixed, total bill is a positively miniscule £120. My faith in Honda engineering is maintained :driving:

Have to say I am SO impressed with H&C over the last few days - their service has been exemplary. About time to post a recommend in the dealers thread.

Relieved just doesn't express how I feel right now, and Mr Bing is delighted 8)

Mr Bing, I was gonna say Poo. But then as I read more of the thread, can say, woo hoo, well done, good news then that is. Hope the stupid car doesn't lose any more oil.
And yes, this Forum does feel like a nice pub sometimes, with some friendly and fewer PITA friends

I feel for you mate, glad you have them both sorted,i like the thought of this being an online pub!-looking forward to your new pics! :) -soppy is the way to go

Skint but mobile - only way to be

Thanks guys, again, really appreciated. Have to say they did a great job, must've been a b*tch getting that seal out when it was half asleep :|
