Shared tools/ equipment loans

Ok just a thought, based on the electronic wizardry, and the often simplicity of jobs, how about...

local shared tools, equipment, expertise.

Iv seen this done before with other vehicle marques, and bikes, where say people want a code reader to clear a fault in Nottingham, someone in that area does it/ provides equipment/ helps

funds for fuel or whatever, rather than dealer.

This isnt to replace services (could be however but thats not my point) or major repairs
its for the silly little things

You only have to ask and most people respond with help and expertise quite quickly, just have to tell them where you are.

My experience is that if you really gonna buy stuff with other people, in the end it always ends with words and discontent.

Like stuart says a lot of things can be done on basis of forum/friendship, and if you really want to do major jobs, there are probably car lifts for hire and diy garages where you can use/hire tools. The only problem sometimes is specialty tools you really need to have for some jobs and that are brand/model specific. I can imagine that a diy garage doenst have camshaft tools for a specific bmw engine or so.

With codereaders, lots of them are now so cheap thanks to china, that buying them isnt really the issue. The ones who have the expertise, already have the reader. So you need both.
And if you need something really special, it gets really expensive again and we're back at line 1 ;)
Also really expensive readers require lots of experience. Those who have experience, already have that reader.
Borrowing their reader wont do any good, they have to help you. They'll do that anyway, and if you think its appropriate/worth it, you can give them a present or some other kind of compensation.
 
I have the software , cable an a laptop based in Sheffield, if anyone would like to borrow , your more than welcome
 
I can do even better: I have cable plus disc which I don't use due to not having windows laptop

I have lent tools on hear before. And happy to continue doing so.
I have lent taps,RTAB removal tool (still waiting for that back) And various other bits.
I think we are all keen to help each other. Just post what you need and if someone has it and they are happy to lend it BINGO.
