SGS Tool Chest - thoughts please

Thinking of buying myself a proper toolchest (currently use an old bedroom chest of drawers from ikea  ) and was looking at this one http://www.sgs-engineering.com/gara...sional-14-drawer-roll-away-tool-chest-cabinet. Has anyone got one or seen one? I bought my trolley jack and axle stands from these guys and those seemed pretty good.

Alternatively, any other recommendation around same price? Someone on an older thread suggested bigdug and they have something similar (I think) at http://www.bigdug.co.uk/home-storag...05/heavy-duty-pro-tool-chest-mega-deal-pp4369 but it costs £100 more.

Also - would I do just as well with one of the cheaper ones - both these companies do a "value" chest for under £100.

Never used this brand before but I use my tool box every day and brought one for about the same price. I doubt you will be disappointed with it just get one on roller bairings.

Looks v good.

I bought a halfords professional roller bearing chest set when they were on buy the bottom cab and get the top one free. Very nice quality actually - have been very happy with them.

You don't have Costco membership? They have been doing Homark and Arcan. recently . V good quality very reasonable price.

I've not heard of SGS before. I have a mid range Clarke one from Machine Mart, it's been just fine. I would say roller bearing drawers are essential as you probably know already.

This is the link to the Arcan one bought at Costco.....sweet.

Thanks all.

I don't have a costco membership - but I know people who do. That Arcan one was a good price. Can't see it on Costco site - but did find it on ebay for £325.

Halfords professional looks good too - not on deal at moment though.

Sounds like I just need roller bearing drawers and I am sussed. Weight is probably a good indicator too. I might refrain for a bit and keep my eye out for a deal.

+1 on the Halfords Pro.
Have my 3 units at work and have been faultless in the 5 years of ownership.

I just leave all my tools scattered around me under the car I'm working on. It saves me having to crawl from under it to get things :D

I should really get a tool chest.

i got one of those cheapo jobs from halfrauds for 50 quid. whilst its not top quality and there is no doubt over that its pretty indestructible. it coped fine for the last 4 yrs of which 1 was when i was building my kit car. if you just wanted something to store stuff in i wouldnt dismiss it.

now for a better job i would check out the teng tools stuff on toolorders (.co.uk i think) top quality. if their cabs are as good as the tools i use form them then dont hesitate to buy something.

Looked into these in detail a while back.

Splashed and purchased Costco's full height jobbie. 100% stainless. Roller bearings, locking wheels. Stands about 5' high and about 12 drawers.

best investment you'll make.

Do I remember right that Halfords professional range has a lifetime guarantee..?

Yep, and they're hassle free if you claim too. I broke a screwdriver and they swapped it with no problems at all.

+1 - I broke a breaker bar (the Allen pin on the joint at the end). Swapped without question. Didn't have the same size so was given the choice of a bigger or smaller one. Top service.

Interesting. I can't see any teng toolchests on that link - but I'm sure they would be expensive if I found them. I have the halfords pro socket set and that has lifetime guarantee - so I would consider that range if I coud get the BOGOF deal.

Do I have to go to a Costco to find out if they have the one people are referring to - on the site the only ones they have are £600+.

Also gave SGS a call. The drawers are lined - and (surprisingly) he reckoned they were good quality - says they use them in their workshops.

I will look around for a bit and see what deals come up. Or I may just order the SGS one - seems a good price for something of that weight. Then I can let people know what it is like. I am loathe to spend more than the £250 that one costs.
