Sevice & MOT Question

I just wanted to get people's feedback on where best to get my car serviced and MOT''d.

I was all set to go to a specialist to save myslef £100 for an inspection 1 service and then i was reading a magazine this morning which had a feature on the MGF which mentioned that some faults with the car were often dealt with on the quiet while cars were serviced by the dealer. So I wonder if by using an independant specialist I may miss out on an unofficial repair/fault rectification that BMW dealer may do withought me knowing about it?

Also my exteded warranty says that if my car fails it's MOT before the warrante runs out on any faults that are covered by the warrante then the dealer will put it right at no cost, so on this basis I'm guessing it's best to get the MOT done by the dealer?

judging by what you say about the warranty, saving the £100 could be false economy, also if your extended warranty came from a BMW dealer, using an indeoendant could give you hassle if something does go wrong.

As for them fixing faults "on the quiet" I have no idea

The service schedule states that should check for recalls and rectification notices when the car comes in for a service. How many actually do this I don't know.

Surely if you get a list of failure points on an MOT and take it to your local dealer they would still have to rectify them under warranty to get you through the MOT.
Although I still sometimes get my MOTs done by the dealer as I like to see them only being able to charge £50 or whatever for an hour's work

Thanks for your feedback, the only problem i was thinking if I got my local test centre to do the MOT and it failed on something that's covered I'll have the hassle of getting it back to BMW for them to fix before it can be MOT's again which some places charge for, so I guess I've answered my own question that it would be easier to take to BMW for the MOT.

I think I'll stick with doing the service at a specialist though as it is £100 cheaper and they seem very good when I popped into see them.
