Servicing question #123123908

My Z4C was registered October 2007. I bought it as an AUC in January of this year, so supposedly with FSH. I bought it with 18500 miles on the clock. The service history only shows the oil change, done November 2010 I believe (so the car was 3 years old).

Am I right in thinking that a) this oil change was done one year too late and b) I should go in for Inspection 1 pretty soon to get back on the schedule?

Services are required per the indicator which varies according to driving conditions, or after a max of 24 months. So unless it had a service that's not in the book it looks like it was a year overdue. It's possible that it was done but not recorded in the book, a BMW dealer should be able to check on their system. If you think that the dealer you bought it from is giving you bull' you could always contact the previous keeper and ask.

Agree get the dealer to check the BMW service record. Maybe just a stamp missing in the service book. Can't help but ask - this is probably the second largest financial purchase you will make (a house excepted) so why did you not check the service history first....?

Anybody know why the service indicator does not flag up a service is due after the 24 months? it would save a hell of a lot of confusion and grief if it did.

AUC cars are sold as having all services done when stated by BMW. So if not you have been mis-sold, if you phone warranty dept and check with them they should have a record of it, if not done it will not be covered as AUC.

I did check the history but I did not know the correct schedule and trusted BMW's word. I double checked the book and it's had:

Pre sales check Oct 07
Oil change Apr 10
Filters Nov 10

The OBC says inspection 1 is due around 8000 miles but to get back on track it should be 4 years after the registration, right? ie next month. I'll buzz the dealer as well as it still looks like the oil change was outside of the 2 years.
