Servicing my car

Hey guys,

My oil service is due in about 1000 miles; I’m going to do it myself as the car is over 6 years old and has had its Service 2 main service.

I was also thinking of doing a full service i.e. spark plugs etc but would like a little help identifying a couple of things.

1. If I want to do a thorough service what would I change aside from the oil, oil filter and spark plugs?
2. And if I do it what brand/spec parts and fluids would you recommend?

I don’t want to go to my local car shop and ask because I think they just guess what is best for the car based on price.

Cheers for any help

How many miles since its last service?

Brake fluid is every two years which, even when I used to do my own, was enough reason to leave it to a garage. Air filter if enough miles. And coolant?

Is it worth checking the price of a local indy or even stealer doing it once you've priced the bits? Supply your own oil, obviously, but nr me they're not much dearer than a local garage at the reduced-for-older-cars rate (I don't think it's called that  )

i have a relative that is a mechanic and can do it if i need to, i just fancy doing it myself.

the last service was at 3-33k IIRC and i now have 44k on the clock

Prob see when coolant/b fluid was last done then, ditto filter. When I used to do my car the local Bosch supplier was good value. But that was in the days of platinum spark plugs :D

I'd certainly wait till it's warmer tho :)

I have just driven back from work as I started the car I noticed the 'Oil Service' had flashed up with a little clock next to it.
I guess that means an oil service is due.
The trouble is it had an inspection 1 at 32k which was 8 months ago and i have only driven 3k miles since? Is this correct?
On the dash before it just had 12,750.......... now it has 'oil service 12750' Why?

Isnt that how many miles until you have to have an oil service?

well that was what I thought, but why just flash up?
it was not there before i can guarantee. normally when things pop up like that its an alert, no?

if you over run you get a minus (-) next to the number of miles on start up.

so telling you how many you have driven beyond

why it just appeared on your drive home? - no idea!
