Servicing Guidelines & Prices

As this is coming up more frequently on the forum, I thought it would be a good idea to put some clarification across regarding servicing on the Z4. Perhaps a mod could put this as a sticky or include it elsewhere for highest exposure.

What service do I need?
The servicing structure is as follows:
Oil; Inspection 1; Oil; Inspection 2; recurring

How often?
Services must be carried out every 2 years or according to the mileage indicator on the dash; whichever occurs soonest.
Brake fluid must also be changed every 2 years, and is not mileage indicated

What can I expect to pay at a main dealer?

For all engines except the 'M':
Oil Service - £150
Inspection 1 - £250
Inspection 2 - £350
Brake Fluid - £60

For M engines:
Oil Service - £200
Inspection 1 - £600
Inspection 2 - £800
Brake Fluid - £60

Wish I would have seen this before

Anyway, I guess it should go in the FAQ: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=15177

Hmm, just paid £298.00 for the first inspection 1 on my 2.5i SE at Harry Fairburns in Irving, was quoted same at the Glasgow branch.
Would be interesting to know how much time was spent on my car, I am guessing at less than an hour.
Useful post IK.

300 isn't too far off, and my local are keenly priced. For example I had heard of people paying in excess of £1000 for an inspection 2 on an M.

prices vary round the country TBH, I tried 3 local dealers and an indi for my oil and 2 yr service, dealer price varied from £290 to £350 and the indi was only slightly cheaper than the £290 so my local dealer price matched the cheapest.

Can I clarify the service structure. Is it:

Car new --- 2 years ---> Oil --- 2 years ---> Inspection 1--- 2 years ---> Oil --- 2 years ---> Inspection 2 ... then back to Oil followed by Inspection 1 again and so on...

or as you say, unless the car asks for it sooner.

But when the car is 3 years old, it will need an MOT. Would they not do some sort of service then...? :?

Trying to mix condition based servicing with time based only leads to confussion IMO.

Oil - Insp1 - Oil - Insp2 - Oil - Insp1.......

plus the brakefluid service every 2 years is how I would look at it, with the limit being 2 years between any service regardless or mileage.

Mine has only done 8k in the last 18 months and likely only to do 1k more in the next 6 months so I will hit 4 years and Insp1 by default.

With regards to MOT after 3 years it's every year so on your theory they would need to perform a service every year. They are completely different which is why they are not linked I would say.

I wouldn't be servicing it at every MOT personally, but that's down to your preference. Nothing wrong with doing an interim service between each service.

Aahh ok, so each service is every 2 years (low mileage like Mr srhutch), at end of year 3 and then at end of year 5 it would just be the MOT and nothing else, but after 4 years it would be Inspection 1 + MOT.

Is the MOT cost negligible... just a tick-box exercise? :?

Dick Lovett Swindon. All of the Dick Lovett group provide the same prices (Swindon, Hungerford and Bristol).
