Servicing Costs 3.0 Z4

Hello

I was wondering if someone could clarify a few things for me please.

What are the average costs at a local indy (benstenmotors are nearby to me) for the following:

Inspection 1
Inspection 2
Oil Change

Also what are the service intervals.

How much are you looking at to change the front brakes/pads and rear brakes/pads.

Are there any other consumables other than tyres I would need to be aware of?

Indies tend to vary alot. My local Indy charge the following for Inspection 2

"The price quoted of £320 does include all service parts, labour, oil and VAT.

If I detail the individual costs you can decide which parts, if any, you would like to provide;

Oil Filter £7.73
Mobil Oil (Fully Synthetic) 6.5 litres £61.75
Microfilter (carbon) £22.86
Spark plugs X 6 £53.70
Air Filter £16.36
Labour £105"

supplying your own Oil, Spark Plugs etc can reduce the cost quite a bit and you know its the right stuff. Saying that give your local Indy a call, its the only way you will know how much they cost. i think i had full pads and discs done all round with OEM parts for £180 inc labour, although i may be wrong. Again, prices change so best off dropping your Indy an email asking for costs on everything you are worried about and keeping that for future reference.

Thank you both for you're help.

I'll add it my document that I'm putting together just to give me a general idea of running costs.

The brakes/pads seem cheaper than I'd expected in all honesty :)

Try your dealer too. I got my local dealer to price match a local indy. 3.0 si £ 315 for inspection 2 ! Great price for dealer.

That was a deal! My local SW England BMW dealers wanted 'about' £570 - (inc brake fluid change), no doubt done by the apprentice and from previous experience there would have been a list of other bits added, they wouldn't budge on the price as it was already on older car discount :o

So I used a trusted local indi for the Inspection 2 with OEM parts and Havoline Ultra (which exceeds BMW 'Longlife oils' specs) and the brake fluid change, £390 inc VAT

That leads to an interesting discussion, if price wasn't an issue, would you rather take it to your indi BMW specialist, or main dealer?

I'd rather take it to a specialist personally.

Just checked the invoice it was £325.37 for inspection 2 only no brake fluid change. There was a link on here that you could get prices from the cheapest dealers in your area. Will try &'track it down.

Search that on the forum if you have an hour to spare!

TBH full BMW stamps can't really be argued with at re-sale time and I've stuck with them 'till now. But although mines very low mileage and clean it's nearly ten years old and you have to be realistic on values and I simply resent being ripped-off. I don't honestly think a BMW stamp will add £200 over a fully documented indi.
Talking trust and confidence in the job I've always been happy with BMW but they do try to ramp-up problems for extra work, I'm very happy with the work the indi has done for me in the past and they have actually saved me a fortune by repairing or even re-engineering components rather than unnecessarily replacing whole units.

Not sure what I would have done if BMW HAD price matched though, good question :? in truth I may have stuck with BMW.

My car is nearly 10 years old and I'm probably the last owner that has any real £ value in it

With that I now take it to a local mechanic. I provide the oil etc and he carries out whats needed for each inspection - although minus a BMW or indie stamp

my local indy charges £119 for an oil change, £189 for an inspection 1 and £239 for an inspection 2.

pretty good prices i think.

It's worth checking they are doing everything on the Insp 2 in particular which is a long list, one 'specialist' I contacted wouldn't have done the pollen filter for example which is relatively expensive and a bit of a fiddle, he only mentioned it when pressed. There are big price and quality differences with oils (and some BS) but providing they meet or exceed BMW oil specs (and all branded full synthetics should) they should be fine. I'm funny about oil filters as well, probably unnecessarily and due tales from the past of budget items draining down causing wear on cold starts, or having insufficient flow under pressure so I specified BMW's.

Although at those prices

You could just buy the filter and the oil you want and get them to stick it in for you

the indy V BMW service record is a conundrum if you study the logic
we seek our used motors with full dealer history yet many like myself would prefer to go indy for service & repairs after purchase which kind of shows we have little faith in the dealer stamps & more in independents ? :?

I managed to get my last service one done on my old 6cyl Z4 for £199 from my local BMW dealer who priced matched the next nearest main dealer.

My ///M though will be serviced either by my local dealer or one of two Indi's either 40 or 80 miles away who are well known BMW specialists.
