Hi all
I'm looking to return to Z4MC ownership and have found one I like but have some concerns regards to the service schedule. Would appreciate your wisdom if you would'nt mind
Pre-delivery 26th June 08
Running In 1120 miles, 11th August 2008
Oil Service 11,626, 2nd Dec 09
Oil & Inspection 1 26,378, 8th Oct 2010
Oil Service 39,255, 31st May 2012
Blank but stamped Sytner, Leicester?
Inspection 1 51,158, 18th Nov 13
Next Service due on the odometer is showing oil in 11,000 miles

My concern is that surely we should have had a Inspection 2?

Thank you

Richard

Yes should be Oil, 1, Oil, 2 (depending on length of time between services)
+1

Several things that should be checked in Ins2, are not covered by an Ins1.

Absolutely missing an insp II, if you could get the current owner to fund an Insp II or negotiate on price I wouldn't walk away.

6 and a half months after it should have been carried out, but it was "serviced" on time even if it was the wrong one. I wouldn't have thought that any damage would have been done, get the Insp II carried out and enjoy.

Use it as a negotiation imo

Thanks very much for your views guys very much appreciated. I'll let you know how I get on....................watch this space

Sytner Leicester should be able to tell you what they did on the stamped but blank service.

Equally Insp2 is verrrrrry important. Recently had costly issues because mine clearly wasn't done properly.

The Shims should be done on an Ins 1 as well. I think it's Diff & Gearbox oils which are extra on Ins 2

That was my understanding too. As I said, for 6 months, I'd negotiate and still go for it, the still looks to have been well maintained. The funny thing is that an Insp II isn't hugely more expensive than an Insp I, why would the current owner skimp for the sake of £200-300?

Echoing others above Insp II is bigger service.

@CornishRob - I don't believe diff oils are done in a Inspection II.

From memory my inspection II was a lit more expensive (dealer did it before I bought the car)

Included:

Oil
Oil filter
Spark Plugs
Air Filter
Some other filter (cant remember) not fuel possibly pollen?
A check of underneath the car of any perrisble parts - so a bush was changed on mine

Thats what I can remember from the work sheet...

They do a lot more than that during the Insp II. Valve Clearances for one and also I'm pretty sure Diff oil is changed as I'm planning to upgrade mine to reduce some of the diff knocking.

Haven't got my own to hand, but this (from a US service book) shows the difference between an I1 and I2.

As far as I know, I've never been charged or informed about a 'mobility system cartridge', and I've had 2 inspection 2s.

Thank you so much everyone.

The dealer (BMW) has agreed to do a Inspection 2 as part of the sale. I have requested valve clearances documentation and a supporting document to put in the service book to explain why Inspection2 was carried just 2000 miles after the Inspection 1.

It seems that Sytner were requested by the customer only to carry out a Inspection 1?

Deal done and if all goes to plan I pick it up a week Saturday. I'll post some pics of course..

Can't wait to get back behind the wheel of a Z4MC 8)
