I took the opportunity to straighten the flat bottom which was twisted.
with shims and the heat gun, it became flat again :)

Be interested to know how smooth the box shifts with that oil.
Best oil so far i have just used Redline MT-LV.

The filter you pulled out might be a charcoal filter, that is why it is dark.
The replacement looks non charcoal.

The first cabin filter i bought was wrong size even though where i bought it said it was right size.
Your filter looks like wrong size, forced to fit.

For the filter, it was very dirty. The new one has returned to its place.
For the gearbox, I have not yet been able to drive with the car because of the cononavirus ... I will put my feelings as soon as I drive with (I hope)

The cabin filter is so often neglected as it is a bit fiddly to get out. I took mine out and vacumned leaves and all sort of rubbish..
I am due to change the gearbox oil and the differential oil. I'm waiting until I get access to my neighbour who has a car lift (un pont élévateur ). The Z4 is just too low to get under properly even when up on stands (les chandelles)...
