Service interval

Morning all.

I have a 3.0Se with 54k on the clock. Service indicater suggests a service is due in 10k. The last service carried out was 2 years ago(inspection 2). Is there a time limit? I don't do many miles, 4k per year.

Any advise would he great.

Thanks.

Servicing is required as indicated on the dash or every 2 years. The brake fluid is 2 years.
If your last was Insp 2, then the next is OIL then Insp 1, then OIL, then 2 again and so on. For some reason the service warning will not remind you at 2 years which seems daft, but brake fluid changes will even if they are out of sync with the service schedule, both indicators can be re-set from hidden menus in the dash (search forum / google) but the reset history is stored.

Local stealers want over £200 for a oil change but I keep my full BMW history going. Friend who owns a proper garage is £90 All in. If it was an inspection i would keep it at the stealers. But over £200 for an oil change is pricey to say the least.

So just an oil change then and inspection 1 next year.
Hi, don't worry the whole inspection/service thing can be confusing. If you are doing low miles (same as me) you need to ignore the service indicator and carry out a service (or inspection as BMW call it) every 2 years.
As I said the pattern you are on following the last insp 2 is that you need Oil service next, then 2 years later Insp 1 (which is an oil service plus some other stuff), 2 years after that would require just the Oil service, then 2 years to the next Insp 2 (which is oil plus a load of stuff inc plugs etc). By which time you will be an old man and petrol won't be sold anymore

Hope that's clearer

I just do an annual oil change or at 6000 miles whichever is first, to be honest it never is miles unless it is the 911. Follow the reminders for the rest but I reason that I would rather pay out for oil yearly than an engine and oil is the lifeblood of an engine! Makes sense to me anyway!
