I’m booked in for a service next week. The car requires oil and filter plus a vehicle check, as displayed via OBD. It’s 4 years old in June and covered 24300 miles. My BMW AP also “recommends” spark plugs plus air and pollen filters. However, this is “determined dynamically” and won’t show as required via OBD.

As my car is on a Service Pack till June 2024 and it’s a keeper, I want the plugs and filters changed during the upcoming service. Is this something that will be done or am I likely to get some resistance from the Service Department?

Plugs should be done as a matter of course at 4 years (every other service). I just had the exact opposite, garage insisting plugs are changed even though car is on 12k miles. They said they couldn't reset service indicators (or update servers) without them being changed. :roll:

Air filter, oil filter, pollen filter, oil and diagnostic check aswell should be on the schedule. My garage told me fuel filter on the phone but couldn't see it on the invoice TBH.
 
Yes I’m sure they will, I’ve had service inclusive before but as I do over 16,000 miles a year they only last less than thee years so I never got the full use, however it is now 62,000 and five years so I’m tempted seeing that I’ve just been quoted £370 for an oil change :!:
 
If it's on the service schedule, it should be done.

As for the quote for the oil change :-o Approx 6 litres of a good oil and filter should cost no more than £100. An hours labour at the most.

Would get that done by an Indy.

Mine was done in September just before sorn at 16.5k (The car is a Sept 16 ) - I'm sure this is the second time they've been changed (they say)
They would not go ahead with the service unless i agreed to having them fitted.
It was ok when plugs were 5shillings a pop - but they are expensive now.

I wonder if they were changed?

I changed the plugs (finally. See another thread) on my 10 year old E89 today at 30k. The plugs that came out were original from the factory and were pretty much spotless. By BMW schedules they would have been changed twice previously already. :o

New plugs were Bosch iridiums which cost £8 each from Autodoc and took about 5 mins each to do (once I had the right socket).

Revenue streams for dealers (and BMW), that's what this is.
 
One of my previous 28i Z4 had it's first service at 18k and they insisted on changing the spark plugs. I went mad at the service guy but had no option really as they would have had a get out should the engine later develop issues under warranty. I later changed it to another 28i and when that went for the same service, there was no longer any need to change them apparently. Typical manufacturer driven bollocks! The removed plugs were absolutely perfect with no damage at all.

I would imagine they could check them and replace if damaged, but that wouldn't make as much money. Cynical, Moi?
