Service history? Yes sir

I replaced my E85 with an E89 last week :D

'Full BMW service history' they said
As suspected it was within the specified mileage - the last service that the oil/filter and air filter was changed was at 12,500 miles, it's now at 23,500
It had been in for another service at 18,000 miles but only the brake fluid was changed
Pic of the air filter below :(
I will change the oil at the weekend - then same time next year - which will be about 5 to 6k miles later
My point is people seem to put a great value on a recognised service history, whilst a car well maintained by an experienced enthusiast could have been better looked after

I have had the same issue..............BMWs Condition Based Service  , absolute poppy cock (that's me being polite). I would check your plugs if you have not already done so? Mine were shot. :soapbox:

Just had mine serviced, got fed up waiting for the count-down on the service indicator. Just an oil change, but there's a noticable difference. I'll be getting an oil change service done annually if the regular service isn't due, which it won't be because I do about 5k per year and the current indicator is saying 15,500 mile to the next Inspection 1. 15.5K ? Wtf?

If condition based meant what the words do then that filter would have been changed already. Alas, it doesn't.

We've had an oil change every year with the MOT regardless of the service intervals from BMW, using a specialist as they actual care about customer service, local BMW authorised dealer is a shambles of overpriced incompetence.

Hence why I'll be servicing my own while it's in my ownership.

Dates and receipts for the parts will be logged and kept.

Some will want Dealer SH but I'd rather have peace of mind that they were done and done correctly.

My e89 is very low mileage, lucky if it will do 5k a year but I have and will change the oil every year, just had my local dealer change the oil and brake fluid (had to ask them to stamp the service book!). Changed the oil annually on my Jags and felt they ran better for doing it, toying with the idea of fitting a K&N air filter instead of a standard paper one, did that on my last two Jags also. Just bought a cabin filter for the e89 going to fit that myself.... Silly price to change that at the dealer.

Friend had a Jag. Would find any excuse to leave it with the dealer to have it serviced or fixed (and valeted :) )..
Got banned for two years, car stood still. One day I suggested we fire it up.
Knowing this 40k car had been to the dealers often, I placed a bet the air filter had never been changed.
Sure enough we found a dirty air filter after scrapping out about a sand bucket of dried leaves!

Diy cost me about £130 to change all filters, oil, brake fluid and plugs.

My car bought at 29k had only one service stamp, 2yr 21k.

Sounds like I'm not the only one
What my photo didn't show was the dozen dead flies and leaves in the airbox as well :?

Unfortunately unless you have a copy of the invoice for the service then they could have told the previous owner it had been changed.

I've been in for CBS before and they've tried to change spark plugs 3 weeks after they were changed due to coil pack changes. I've always found although is CBS they always supposedly change everything. I always get home and check myself as I'm never 100% sure.

I had leaves coming out my air vents after the last service due to them allowing them into the air system whilst changing filters and failing to remove them.

Most people won't check what's been done. They'll take it at face value. What does the service book say?

Service book says oil & filters (air/oil) were changed at 12,500 mile service and not required at 18,000m
Which i guess is in line with the specification - my point really was that personally for the relatively small cost I would replace annually despite the mileage. I also then know that it was done properly :)

I dont trust main dealers one bit. My 50,000 mile ten year old car had all the stamps in the book but did a service in the winter and what a sight the air filter was. Black would be an understatement so I brushed it down and there on the side was a 2005 date stamp. Conclusion - no filter canage at main dealer in 10 years.

I once bought a Volvo 850 from the 1st owner, his company car with FMDSH, I went to the same garage that it had always been serviced at and bought a service kit. When I tried to fit the air filter, I found it wouldn't fit..different shape. So I returned to the garage and was told that my car still had the old type filter and it should have had the housing changed at some time in the past. This housing was about £70 if I wanted it. I asked if this part should have been changed by a main dealer serviced car, much nodding from behind the counter followed. Then I showed them the reg number and they realised it was done at their garage and was their cock up, they reduced the price to £20, I suggested I go to Volvo UK and they handed it over with the correct filter, for nothing.
