Service advise please

Hey Guys

Some service advice needed please.

Had my 03 for just over a year now and I've just hit the 30k Mark. Service indicator is showing Oil Service due in 1500 miles. The background is that I brought the car at 15k miles with 2 previous services. I've been putting of the service because the garage told me to wait till the car told me.

Thing is its now 2 years since its last service and almost 17k miles most of which i've done.

I'm thinking I shouldn't wait anymore and at it needs more than just an Oil service?

Also how important is it quietly wise and log book related to get it done at BMW? or should I consider somewhere cheaper.

I've been quoted £207 to change the oil and £479 for Inspection two and BMW Luton.

Please help.

You guys are the best. :)

Just had my Zeds oil change, didnt need it but it was 2 years since its last and i just wanted to keep the deal stamps up2date in the service book...

If doing more than the average yearly milkes id be having an interim service too...

Was just thinking, It's been 10 years now and although it's not asking for it would it not be a good idea to get the inspection two so that the sparks are replaced? or does it not work like that? Sorry for being such a car noob.

How much difference would inspection 1 to 2 be anyway?

A checklist of each inspection is here:

The way I read it, if inspection II comes up before the indicated replacement mileage, plugs would not be changed anyway. It has always been my belief that ideally, plugs do not age much, they wear out almost exclusively due to use/mileage only. If the engine is not running properly, build up of oil and carbon can greatly shorten life though. And damage from detonation can happen instantly at any mileage.

If the engine is running poorly, it's worth at least looking at them, otherwise I'd leave them be. I may change them before 100k, but not at 40k.

@PaulN, If it's been 2 years since last oil service, then your car DOES need it. Should be done every 2 years or when the service indicator calls for it, whichever comes first. So you are doing it right, even though your reasoning is a bit flawed.

Full BMWSH is key really so do t cheap out just ring round BMW garages to get best qoute, and if your Zed only needs a oil change then do so and a inspection 1 not 2 as 2 changes all fluids within the car and at 30k shouldnt require doing so, so oil change ans service 1 is my thoughts!

TBH is the car is 10 years old and to date has only had two services then BMW service from now on isn't going to matter is it should have an oil service every 2 years as a minimum.

Find yourself a good Indi, but just check round for prices and make sure they are cheaper than BMW. Also haggle with them, including BMW and supply your own oil, it can save you a fortune.

Thanks for your thought. I've got it booked in for an inspection 1 an BMW for £375 - Seemed okay to me.

The last BMW service was at 8k miles in 2005 and then done by the indie garage that brought it at 16k last year. I had an independent look over it and gave it the thumbs up. Thing is they never stamped the log book. Not sure if that's a good thing on not. Bow I have a jump from 8k to 30k. Hmmm.....

Brought the car because it was a garaged by an old lady all these years and was hardly ever used. Was a beauty.

Since I've had it it's been bumped into 3 times and had 5 new tires! Not my luck.
