Selling price advice please?

Unfortunately, due to circumstances mostly beyond my control, I may have to sell my beloved Z4MC. So, am looking for some realistic expectation of what it is worth in a private sale, say via Auto Trader. Its a Jan 08 "57" plate with £26k miles up. Just had inspection I at main dealer in Glasgow (I'm twenty miles West). Currently on 19" CSL replicas with good tyres all round (> 4mm) and have original 18" with good tyres all round in my garage. Car is space grey (I think - metallic silvery blueish hint) with red interior - not extended. Heated seats, rear PDC, BT, iPod integration. Incidentally, I won't be offended, but I paid £26k for it in Nov 09 ...

I happened to be looking at M cars for sale last week and I noticed that prices vary from £20-£26k for coupes and that at present there are a lot more coupes for sale than roadsters. That means there's a good choice out there for any prospective buyer.
£22k seems a reasonable price expectation, expensive Insp 1 just done so no big bills for 4 years on lowish mileage. The car has no nav which seems to count against them.

You will sell the OEM wheels or the CSL reps separately so you can factor that into what you get. Best of luck.

I`m thinking of changing my car for an M6 conv. I would like a few opinions on what I can get private and trade in. It`s a Dec 06 on a 56 plate Imola Red with 38,000 miles, 5000 engine miles on brand new engine from BMW M-Sport in Germany. Car is in fantastic condition, new tyres (200 miles), new rear springs, 12,000 miles until Inp. 1. AUC warranty until Sep 10. Car has all the important options inc- DSP, Champagne Nappa, Sat Nav, Cruise, Bluetooth, ext. lighting, storage, etc etc.

I was thinking I`d probably get offered 18ish on a trade in and ask £20,995 private?

Think you'll get 20K

No Nav is a problem for many people

:D  Sorry, but this tickles me. I had BMW Sat Nav on both my E92 M3's and it is by far the worst Sat Nav (OE or aftermarket) I've ever encountered. It amazes me that anyone places any value at all on BMW Sat Nav - quite simply - it sucks!! I have a £50 sat nav with Tom Tom on it which wipes the floor with the BMW device.. Please someone explain to me why Sat Nav is so important to resale value when it is, for the most part, unusable??

I agree with you to a point - the hardware and software are dated to say the least. But for me it offers a few benefits:

1) It's always there - you never find you've lent the portable nav to your girlfriend or taken it to use in another car and forgotten to put it back when you need it most
2) It's much nicer to have an integrated solution rather than have wires trailing everywhere and suction marks on the windscreen or crappy mounts attached to the dash
3) You don't have to keep hiding it away when you leave the car and getting it out and setting it up again when you return
4) The screen provides other benefits such as browsing the bluetooth phonebook, intravee, 2 consumption memories etc.

All good and valid points glastoveteran!! I just get so frustrated though by the outdated maps, the slowness and lack of full postcode search ... I managed to mount mine just below the air vents in the centre of the dash and have virtually no wires as this is just above the cigarette lighter. I do understand the benefits you have highlighted, but to me its just such a naff system its not worth having. e.g. I still kept my cheapy sat nav in the glove box of my M3's as I could not rely on BMW's getting me to where I wanted to go :(

The pricing of these cars seems to be based on a few key criteria:

Colour
Spec
Mileage
Warranty.

When I was looking for a ZMC, I found cars without Nav and in less than favourable colours were not selling, in fact, a couple are still around.

I do agree that the Sat Nav is poor and the same spec as the items found in 2001 M3's however it is an item that people want.

Judging by my experience over the last 6 years with M cars, I would say a warranty is a must.

I would say your car is worth about £20-£21k but I would advise putting the standard wheels back on the car!

Thanks all - really do appreciate the feedback on all counts!! :D

Taz - put your cash away. I won't be selling for that price ... well not in the immediate future anyhoo

I agree it's rubbish, but thats not the point. Cars without are harder to sell as many people want nav. If i had the choice again, i'd save the money, buy a car without nav and get some sort of after market sat nav fitted
