I dont see anything wrong with it. In all honesty, how many people are going to sell an iPhone, a teaset or a rocking horse and think "I know lets join the Z4 forum and advertise there". Very unlikely.

As long as members dont abuse or inundate the forum with loads of items I would be for it.

Now people that join soley to sell their Z4 on here - thats a different matter. . . . .

How about if someone new just wants to post an advert for a Zed making it a MANDATORY requirement to fill in a set of pre-defined questions - make it tough but then you cann see how genuine the car is. This is an extract from my check list of DOCUMENTATION check first, check out the CAR second. the forum can then, as it does so well, prod & poke for the benefit of anyone buying it :poke:

It's a bit belt & braces, but I never even go & see any car without first going through this - anyone who gives wooly answers, never even bother taking it further. Have always found people who provide this info offer a genuine car.

Documentation
1. Will the car be sold by its registered keeper from its registered address?
2. How long have you owned it? (question 1&2 will normally validate whether Private or Trade sale)
3. Why are you selling it?
4. How many previous owners has it had?
5. Please list out
- when it has been serviced & @ what milage
- where each service has been done
- what work has been done
- whether you have the invoicing to substantiate the detail
- when the next service is due (from the instrument cluster)
6. When is the next Road tax & MOT due and do you have all the old MOT's (some people like me even keep the old Road Tax which is a good sign)
7. Do you have both keys?
8. Do you have a HPI certificate and free from any finance or charge?
9. Has it ever been repaired, involved in an accident or stolen?
10. Do you have all the original documentation?
11. Is there anything that you are aware of that is broken or may need replacing?

The car
1. What is the bodywork like, ie any dents / scuffs / rust etc?
2. Is there any damage, wheel by wheel, to the alloys
3. What is the tread depth of each tyre, wheel by wheel, pointing out any uneaven wear (note some people put new tyres on to hide tracking issues)
4. Do all the electrics work, both inside & out?
5. Does the air-conditioning / climate control work properly, including the heating?
6. Does it start easily first time & every time?
7. Does it brake evenly in a straight line on a flat road if you take your hands off the steering wheel?
8. Is the tool kit complete?
9. Is there any damage to the interior trim, seats or equipment?
10. Is it a smoker’s car?
11. Are there any leaks, from the engine or interior?
12. Are there any stone chips on the windscreen?
13. Is there any clutch whine when you depress it?
14. Are there any leaks on the exhaust? Test put something up against it once warm and listen if anything blows underneath
15. Do all the door locks with central locking, windows go up & down properly?
16. How long does it take for the engine to reach normal operating temperature?
17. Any leaks or uneavenness from shock absorbers
18. Is there any damage underneath
19. Is there any play in the steering wheel
20. How much wear is there in the seat belts & pedals
21. How many clicks does it take before the handbrake is fully on?
22. Do the windscreen wipers clear the screen without smearing & washer jets work properly
23. The stereo - does the radio, CD etc plus speakers all work without distortion at reasonably loud volume

I like the idea of being able to buy/sell non Z items. I am a member of MLR, Seloc and JapNorthEast and all provide this, albeit with certain criteria to be met. To sell on MLR you must be a paid up member £25 per annum. JNE you must have at least 25 posts iirc whereas Seloc you are free to use the classifieds from minute one.

I don't see any differences in the 3 sites, you would mabe expect to see a deluge of crap on Seloc what with it having no restrictions but I haven't seen it. I have never sold non car items on any so it isn't something that would really impact me but I don't see how it could hurt really.

Mind you, I'm only upping my post count here in case a minimum amount is required in order to sell my back catalogue of porn.

Keep in mind there are strict rules regarding that, and all sales of that kind must be closely vetted by the mods first

But of course, first refusal for Mods is only fair in my opinion.

....don't agree with that......

Some great comments and glad my original post has stimlated a good debate. Interesting to see what the poll outcome will be.

However lets not forget what the Forum is about;

Owners and those interested in the Z4 to exchange views and ideas, offer solutions to problems, share experiences, mods etc but overall all Z4 related. Yes we can have some Fun in the open discussion Forums, vent our frustration at other issues, pass on a good joke, review other makes and models etc but in general it a Z4 site with a Z4 theme.

Other sites cater for selling general items, E Bay for example. So is it appropriate to allow non Zed related items for sale. I wouldn't dream of joining lets say a Ford Forum (God forbid.......) and advertising Zed items or any other item for sale - just playing DA  ..... but you get my drift I'm sure.

Love the check list (look at the one in my signature link as well) but it should always be the responsibility of the potential purchaser to make the checks themselves - not sure we want an advert with all this in. And in any event an advert is just that - someone elses written evaluation of what they have for sale and in terms of condition what they feel is good may not pass my test in terms of fitness for use.

Think it's ok for genuine forum users who want to sell things

Not up for traders or scammers trying to punt their illegal goods.

This could be tricky to moderate....

Have chosen not to vote, as I don't think its a simple yes or no...... :?

I can't see how anything non-Z4 related would be better being sold here instead of Ebay etc :scratchhead:

New members joining to sell - not sure, although if it offers someone the chance of a Z4 which they otherwise may have missed, then maybe it's acceptable.

Free advertising would be the appeal i would think.
