Voted with caveat that you have to be a member with more than 1 post to your name (sort of an eBay bidder rule).

I'm also OK with it but i'd go with having to either 50+ posts or a referral from an existing member with 50+ posts in order to be able to start a new thread in the For Sale section. Seems a bit harsh but it's a deterrent to scammers for sure.

errr... think you ought to make that at least 25 posts and been a member for over 6 weeks (just so I can scrape in). That ought to put off any unnecessary abuse otherwise think it's just fine if u create a new section

As above, sellers shouldn't be new members for non-Z4 stuff, but why not? Have nothing against forum members being offered a deal on something they may not see otherwise. Also, it is nice buying from people who you have some connection too and likewise with selling. I am not suggesting it becomes Freeads, but I am pretty sure we're seen HiFi equipment, computer equipment - inc iPads and other cars for sale in the past. In fact, pretty sure inkey$, bought a [non-Zed] car from JamesG and both were very happy with the transaction.

As long as the products are legal, why not give people that advantage? Buyers and sellers. Lets face it we all have quite similar interests anyway > Z4s, camera, bikes and technology.

 While I'm at it, there needs to be a decision, I think, on whether someone can join to sell a Z4. Again, I have nothing against someone on this forum getting a head start on a Z4 that's for sale - either as a new buyer or someone upgrading. If the ad looks dodgy it should be binned anyway and the user banned. It does the forum no harm to have Z4s offered - surely there is enough info on here to protect prospective buyers. What I don't like to see on the forum are negative comments purely because someone has placed an ed, it looks petty, when there is nothing specifically to say they can't - however, without any rule on this people are well within their rights to express their opinions. Hell, we even referred someone from here to post as a newbie and sell and X5 on that forum (with a kind introduction from PVR).

Ahhhh.

Thanks for that, Alan

Back to work.

I bought my current phone from a seller on the http://avforums.com Their trading rules are very detailed and precise, perhaps the Administrator and Moderators can implement some of them in here: http://www.avforums.com/forums/view_trading_rules.htm :)

Me to with this if not it could get out of control.

.

Do think it's taking the mick when this happens, though sometimes someone might just have that '//M' some on here have been looking for.

What you don't want is every motor trader out there suddenly to realise they've got a free ads medium, so gonna vote it's OK with the proviso it has to ONLY be private ads & 'BUYER BEWARE' because it could be someone just trying to off load a real dog...

I tend to feel things that the general population of the forum are interested in is ok i.e. computer kit and general technology is fine, but someone selling a toaster, a desk-fan or a cat is pushing it a bit much.

As for people joining to sell a Z4... difficult one really... bit rude I recon but at the same time I can see the value to us.

I can't see anything wrong in principle with non-Z4 related sales as long as there are mechanisms in place to restrict postings to genuine members (say min one month membership and 25 posts). We need a separate section for non-Z4 sales as well.

As for someone joining to sell a Z4 - why not? We welcome newcomers looking to buy a Z4 so why not someone looking to sell. At least this way the Forum gets to help by asking pertinent questions of the seller.

I honestly did check first (m'lord) and the forum regulations were pretty clear to me at the time I have to say.

"Section 4 - What can be posted

This is a car forum and as such items listed for sale should be of interest to others on the forum. As there are a high percentage of people on the forum who are very much into I.T. and photography anything under those umbrellas can also be listed. Please refrain from getting too "niche" though... "Canon 400D camera" is fine, but "Cisco RV042 VPN Router" is probably a bit too "niche"

Moderators will use their discretion in this area."

As forum members are into their motors I thought a 49cc scooter might have been okay. Wouldnt try and sell a second hand matress here for example

Generally though it would be great to get a final decision on this and maybe updated regulations. Totally understand the worry. None of us want the spam, just good talk about our cars and maybe the occasional appealing and interest related item now and again.

My thoughts

Strictly no traders
Private selling a z4 car ok .
Private selling z4 related items ok
Member with more than 25 posts selling non related z4 items in designated section ok

Anything up for sale must be legal

Agree with PawnSacrafice & ga41 on their posts.

The avforum approach is very good & have also made great purchases from it.

S2ki has a member only rule for selling, ie you are a paid up member to sell anything; not suggesting it becomes a pay to play, but it certainly set the rules.

So do I. I've not voted in the poll as neither option fully fits that thought! Member's with XX number of posts only to be allowed to post in the classifieds.

Personally I'm in favour of non-Z4 things, but within reason. Of course it's defining "within reason" that's the difficult part - I think Jim/sp3tre has it pretty much nailed, but then others might arge about what's within reason.

+1

I'm basically against it as I can foresee the membership being diluted seriously by non-enthusiasts - greatly to the detriment of what we have here.

If it really does happen I think there should be an enforced minimum of say at least 50 posts. it would be too easy to rack-up 25 or so quick bullshit posts just to qualify :poke:

On the selling Z4 front ... I have no issues with someone joining to sell provided the owner is a private sale .. this allows new members to join our happy band.... we also need to remember that there are enthusiasts out there who read the site but don't feel a need to post.

Ads for non Z4 stuff.... think it just complicates things... not against it but could cause more issues than the advantages.

is 50 post even enough?
I was originally thinking exactly that, but I guess there are probably plenty of genuine Forum followers out there who don't actually post that much?

On reflection, perhaps a time-based restriction - say 3 or 6 months membership - may be a more useful idea?
