selling number plates - where to do it, is it worth it?

i have a private plate im not using anymore, its currently on retention and i dont have a car of a suitable age to put it on, is it worth trying the various web sites that offer to buy your plates (the same ones that offer standard stuff you can buy off the dvla for half the price!)? im guessing i should just write it off or see if a family member may put it on a car until i have one i can use it on but seems a waste, even if i could recoup £100 id be happy.
 
T111MLP . suppose it might be good to someone call tim lol. the 1's dont have the top part like a normal font and are quite close together, thats why i went for a 111 plate as the last 3 letters are my initials
 
Could try ad trader and local classifieds? Coming up to crimbo someone might want to buy as a present?
