Hi All,

So what's the deal with these... I'm an "add a bit of locktite" kinda guy and wondered why BMW quote these parts as "one time use" and "selflocking"?

Reason for the question is I'm going to remove my strutbrace soon, so had intended to go back to the old nuts that came off... is that such a nono?!

Cheers!

My indy has told me that its fine to reuse the old nuts, they are two ex BMW tech's and know their stuff so i took their word for it, no issues yet :)

Thanks Hopz, I had the same thoughts...! Presume you just use some locktite too?

Manufacturers always say these type of nuts are one time use and to be correct they are as they won't hold the same as first time. However, I'd just torque them correctly and would not Locktite at all.

They are sensitive to overtightening and many have sheared them off trying to cure the creak of the brace by giving then an extra 'nip'
Locktite (depending on which you use) could result in shearing on removal next time.

Thanks for this. I wondered if I'd cause issues by not buying and using new ones, thinking that they hold the top collar more securely... clearly no need to worry!!

Mine are on their second life. I did use a bit of loctite and didn't torque quite as tight as I was concerned they would shear.
