Secret compartment?

Hi all, I'm a relativity new owner, I bought a 330i earlier in the year and loved he engine so much I went and bought a Z4 3.0se as a "toy" to replace my supercharged MX5

Anyway I bought the car private and knew it needed a few things doing and that was reflected in the price but one thing has just left me stumped

There is an annoying rattle when accelerating and breaking, it is just like a pencil rattling on a plastic tray (well I think that I what it is) I have searched everywhere for the culprit an just cant find it anywhere it sounds like it is in he middle or behind the drivers seat somewhere, does anyone have a suggestion where it might be?

I'm sick of having to listen to the stereo rather than the lovely exhaust and engine note

Cheers

Martin

Hi and welcome.

If you have the oem wind deflector with inserts in the roll hoops it could be these rattling. A drop of silicone should sort.

Definitely not a broken spring...?

The rears are prone to snapping and rattling about, can sound like its on the inside...

Plenty of topics on here about them.

Welcome to the forum :)

There is a compartment in the cubby door between the seats that can hold a pen or five - next to the indentation that's there for the phone kit. I don't put anything in there precisely because if I do it rattles... Kind of like a long hinged door down the passenger side of the cubby when it's open.

Cheers guys

Defiantly not a snapped spring all 4 were replaced just before I bought the car

It really does sound like a pencil on a plastic dinner tray you accelerate it rolls back you brake and it rolls forward.

The centre cubby is empty, the first aid kit is,packed in there tight, I've checked under the seats again and nothing.

It is driving me up the wall!

Is there something on the 'parcel shelf' if it is a roadster ?

Otherwise, stumped :?

Check the door pockets - anything in the boot?

Got me hooked here - don't forget to let us know what it was when you've sorted it! Best of luck!

+1 on the door pockets - I had a coin in there once, rolling around. PITA to get in out with fat fingers....

I was thinking this too, it's a very rattley plastic so anything on there (like a pen) would be quite noticeable.

Another clue - if you have the OEM fire extinguisher fastened under the driver's seat, it can rattle like hell when accelerating or braking. To me it sounded like loose plastic inside the driver's airbag... I've secured the extinguisher with a tailored velcro pocket.
