Hi All,

now i have got my Z4 and use it as my main car, i want to see about taking out a second insurance for my old car, and using it just for shows and Meets. has anyone done this and can you recommend any insurance companies that do show only or a limited use policy. i would do no more than 2k miles a year maybe less and it would be sorn off for the winter. how do you go about having no claims bonus as i have used it on the Z4 insurance.

any help would be good as i'm thinking of keeping my other car and not selling it now.

You can't "share" your no-claims bonus (yet another insurance company rip-off).
Admiral offer a multi-car scheme, but I never found it to be useful.

Depending on what the second car is, you may want to try some of the specialist insurers - certainly look at those who offer kit-car insurance.

I have four cars, and they're all insured under different policies.

The Dodge and KitCar are both under classic and kitcar specific policies, which makes them nice and cheap (£120 and £105 a year each).

The Zed is with DirectLine as a main car, with full no claims.

The Subaru is now also under DirectLine, as they offer a "laid up" policy, and it's easy to switch between an active policy and a "laid up" one with them (one phone call and it's all done).
Also worth noting, I'm now accruing FOUR years no claims each and every year.. however, I can't then "combine" them all into one.. they are four separate no claims entitlements and must always be separate.

useful list here for the kit car lot... they might be worth a ring. Aplan are very good at the mo, used to be frank piccles for me but Aplan seem to have taken over.

just be aware that most policies I've had for the westfield don't accrue any no claims so its worth asking.

thanks for the info will have a check with some modified insurance companies, and see if i can get a show car only policy. it will only be used for four shows a year and the odd monthly meet at brands hatch.

When I bought my first zed I was with Aviva and whilst they wouldn't share my existing NCD from my main car they gave me an introductory discount equivalent to the 5 years I had and then gave me the full 5 years NCD at the end of the first policy year. Might be worth having the discussion with your current insurer.

Definitely worth speaking with both insurers. Had my Fez ST insured through Greenlight when I bought my Z4MC. Greenlight wouldn't insure me on the Zed as a 2nd car so searched around and got a good quote off Adrian Flux (£340) but they required me to I transfer my existing no claims over to them. I called up Greenlight to remove my no claims from the policy, fully expecting them to bend me over a barrel, only to be told that they would 'mirror' my no claims and all I had to pay was the £15 admin fee. Fantastic!

I think the idea that you can only use your no claims on one policy (as per Adrian Flux) is a complete con. The way I see it, I can only drive one car at once. If I claim on any car I drive, wether under my private policies, company or 3rd party while driving a mates car I loose my no claims on all policies, not just the policy I claimed on. This should work both ways i.e. given my no claims is a reflection of my accident history and associated risk, I should be able to use it on simultaneous policies.

I'm with Swiftcover, and with them you CAN share the no claims discount, provided both policies are in your name.

Admiral applied my full no-claims bonus to two separate policies for my Zed and my 320d. I was the only driver insured on either car. My Westfield policy accrues no no-claims as it is a specialist policy. All three are currently uninsured and have been for months :o

Looked into this when I got my zed.

Other car is a focus with wife as an additional driver.

After looking at admiral I went with BMW insurance (cheaper with legel and eurocover) which is unwritten by either Aviva or Alliance I forget which. Everything fixed at BMW and new car replacement in event of right off as mine was new when I took out policy (less need for gap). BMW also paid cancellation fee on existing insurance on focus which helped with moving the no claims on that.

I had 8 year protected no claims on the focus.

The zed now has 8 years protected no claims and is insured for 12,000 miles. The Focus is now insured for 4,000 miles (down from 12,000) BMW mirrored the 8 year no claims but would not protect it on the focus. Both me and wife are insured on both cars. The focus price was slightly higher than previous insurer (hastings direct). After the first year I can protect the no claims on the focus and will effectively have two no claims one for each car meaning I can move one of both cars to difference companies.

Next years renewal will be insteresting.......

A plan have been very good to me, as have some of the others on the list from Westfield world. Many of these specialist policies have a min policy fee though and will limit milage. I can however recommend asking for a larger excess and restricting milage to say 2000 miles as a way of dropping premiums.

I had the same last year with Swiftcover. Apply the same full no claims, but it isnt protected.
