Seats from a crashed car - anything to look out for?

Off to look at some seats from a crashed Z4 in the morning. Is there anything I should look out for, mainly on the electrical side of things I.e. does it matter if the seatbelt pretensioner has fired? Can that simply be un-fired (I'm sure that's the technical wording :)

Once the tensioner has gone off they are fired, you'll need to replace it. Should still work as a functioning seatbelt mechanically but not sure if it will flag a light up.

What colour are they?

Thanks for this. So how can I tell if they've fired? If they have would it be a case of purchasing new pretensioners or just swap my current ones? Are they easy to fit?

They're black btw.

I had this exact thing funny enough.

I did an interior swap on my old z4. bought a red interior to replace my cream interior from a crash damaged car. If the pre-tensioners have fired, then the airbag light will 100% be on and will be an MOT failure.

It IS possible to swap from your existing seats to the new ones if they are same wiring (pre/post facelift differences considered I believe) which should solve the issue. When I did mine, the battery was disconnected and with the "new" seats the airbag light came on. I then had the car in a garage who disconnected the battery again, swapped the pre-tensioners from my old seats, reconnected the battery and the light disappeared.

Definitely worth trying to salvage the old ones if you can, my garage checked with the stealers and the cost of two pre-tensioners was something mad like £400 or so.

Thanks for all of this. I can use the pretensioners from my current seats, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I have a 2004 model and the trashed car is also a 2004 but that doesn't mean the seats were the same that were in from the factory so is there any easy way of telling whether the seats are pre or post facelift?
