Seatbelt Bypass

I have had a good look throughout the forums and had no luck finding a good guide to sort out my issue. It comes on the DRIVERS seat where the seat-belt had an issue reading unplugged when it was plugged in. So I bought a bypass which took off the seat-belt light however the airbag light came on instead. To get that one to switch off I bought a mat emulator like this one:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Seat-Occu...50987109709?fits=Model:Z4&hash=item232788754d

I had a good look underneath and I cant see where to plug it in! Nothing seems to fit that connection. However, there looks to be a connection like this one underneath:

Been in contact with the person who sent it to me and they don't seem to be of much help at all. Was wondering if any of you people could point me in the right direction! The z4 I own was registered in March 2004.

The guy got back to me and said that there is no unit designed specifically for the drivers seat so the drivers and passengers should be the same therefore the first item should work. Need help! :sos:

My thoughts are .... why don't you fix the original problem, possibly just a wire pulled off from the seat belt receptacle, see some similar posts below ..

What exactly are you trying to do? You seem to be on a quest for plug in things to supress warnings designed to ensure yur car systems are working and you're safe.

There is no seat occupancy sensor on the drivers side. It assumes it's occupied.

Probably a good assumption to make would be worried if the car was driving with no one in the drivers seat

Then you simply need to replace the seat belt pre-tensioner (or whatever name should correctly be given to the piece that has the seatbelt buckle, pre-tensioner and mount to the seat). Just get one from a breakers yard as it's a straight bolt in. Then get the airbag light switched off.

To go the route you are headed in is a safety issue.

If the seatbelt does not think it's plugged in then the tensioner will not deploy in a crash. If the airbag light is on then they will not deploy. Suppressing it is at best a workaround, not a solution and I doubt if it will ever work.

checked and there is definitely not a loose connection unfortunately. :(

Ill try and look out for one of these and see if it fixes the issue. :ebay:

New seatbelt tensioner replaced. Airbag light fault still shows. There is no seatbelt issue though. Anyone help?!?!? I have tried erasing the codes.

You'll need a trip to a BMW dealer or Indy, unless you have INPA software to reset the light

tried it with a cheapy diagnostics tool which read no errors. Will do that and see if any success. thank you very much.

I found this website:-
http://www.bavariandominator.co.uk/pages/bmw_airbag_reset_tools_149763.cfm

can't say if it'll work or not, might be cheaper than an Indy ?? Edit... just checked it's for 1993-2003 :(

Damn :( thats unfortunate. Thanks anyway though. Anyone had this re-set by a garage so that I have a rough idea what cost to be expecting tomorrow?

there's this also ...

Main dealer is about £50 to reset. Indy with the right equipment anything down form there to free.

If you need to do more than reset and trace the fault then prices go up.

Thanks for that! was looking on ebay for the INPA software which was roughly £80 for. Would possibly be worth buying myself I guess if its going to cost me £50 anyway...

went to the garage again today and he never managed to clear the code. Still saying that its short-circuting on the seatbelt tensioner. Everything works as it should and beeps when the belt is not plugged in. All the wires on the tensioner side have been replaced so have no idea what the issue could be....HEEEEELP!!!

Main agent or specialist BMW garage then to use the more sophisticated systems to check which loom, control module or component is triggering the fault.
