Seat options

Currently looking to buy a Z4 - most likely a pre-facelift 3.0. It seems that the M-sport seats were a pretty rare option on these cars.

I've seen a few other posts on here to the effect that while the M Sport seats are more supportive, the standard seats are more comfortable. Is that right? Has anyone who's tried both got views on whether the M Sport or the standard seats are better for general driving (rather than on the track or really pushing on)? Hoping to do a long European drive this summer so am keen to get something comfortable!

Also, are there different trim levels of the standard seats? I've seen references to both "Oregon" and "New England" leather - is one a better trim level than the other?

The non M Sport seats have no lateral support, you will slide all over the shop. I noticed it with the first Z4 I drove.

Get the M Sport seats if you can.

I started with standard and converted to sport and never regretted it for an instant.

Without doubt the sport are much more supportive and give an experience much more suitable for a sports car. If you are a big heavy guy then the squabs will feel too tight and uncomfortable, aside that no comparison between the two designs.

LOL well I wouldn't say I'm a super big heavy guy, but I guess I must be heavy enough LOL... I don't care for the sport seats at all the squabs do feel tight to me and also they seem to be in the way entering and exiting the car. The first Z I test drove had sport seats and I wasn't impressed, much more happy with the standard seating!

Thanks for the responses - very helpful. I think I will fit into the sports seats ok - but finding a car with them is a bit more tricky!! :roll: Will keep on looking...

M Sport seats aren't immensely comfortable, but add to the overall theatre/experience of a genuine sports car as others have posted. As does the ride If comfort is a primary factor I wouldn't buy a Z4 personally. Simply getting in and out isn't particularly smooth, without practice!
