Seal and Protect - worth having?

Going to pick up a 2008 3.0si and the dealership are doing some work on it first.

They've offered a Seal and Protect treatment for a reduced £200 - any thoughts on whether it's worth going ahead?

I've had such treatments on new cars before and been pleased with results over time but for a 2008?

Not if you like to look after your car yourself. You can always do it yourself for a lot less money anyway.

I believe you can get the BMW S&P kit for around £20-30 on eBay, if you fancy doing it yourself.

Sounding right - I am getting into 'detailing' and will be looking after the car myself - but it will be sitting outside all weather - will a good preparation and good products be enough protection - maybe I should have a go at the protect and seal myself as suggested.

The only decent thing to do is what I did to my car, but it is about £600 or so and it coats it in a teflon like substance.

Never have to wax it, and the paint never dulls.

Not available in the UK though.

Also works on used cars, but not to the same degree.

Do it if you want to help the salesman. I used to get £50 ever time I sold diamond brite paint protection. And we ALWAYS had a discounted price.
Do that 20 times a month and it soon adds up. The valeters get paid per car so they will wipe it on a quick as possible and not prepare the paintwork so they can move onto the next car.

Often my customers would drive off on damp car seats as the fabric protector hadn't dried in time.

Go on , it's Christmas.

Seriously though , spend £200 on your own detailing products and get a good wax like autoglym hd wax and it will be worth it.

A good sealant will be plenty of protection over the winter months.

I've used Chemical Guys Jet Seal and have been really impressed.

Use a wax on top to get a nice shine and you're away.

Good stuff Paul. Personally I really enjoy working on my own car. I've not got the skill / experience / knowledge to machine polish it.

But claying, sealing and waxing is still a thoroughly satisfying process.

People get a bit hung up over waxes and sealants, just get a few litres showroom shine and your sorted. All I use now and gives perfect results everytime.

The dealer threw in the seal and protect and the interior protect for free when I bought the Zed. I can't say I've noticed any difference.

I always looked after my zed myself. Twice a year I would clay, polish (AG SRP), PB Black Hole sealant, Natty's wax.

Great results, and massive improvement on the swirls I inherited from the last owner.

I would skip the dealers kind offer and invest in car products

I kindly refused the dealers offer as well Paul. I spent the money I saved on good quality polish, wax and leather treatment products instead
