I’ve recently noticed some scratches and marks on my rear view mirror. I think they are new, I haven’t seen them before. In recent months I’ve had the windscreen replaced, an MOT, and an inside/ outside clean at a local place.
I can’t say I noticed these at any of the time of the above, but it was perfect until it wasn’t. I’ve done about 100 miles since the windscreen was replaced, which was the first thing done in the list above, an didn’t notice them until a few weeks after the clean - and can’t think of any time the car would have had something in it that would do this since then. Or ever, for that matter.
The mirror is auto dimming if that makes a difference.
None of the scratches can be felt by touch. So far I’ve tried alcohol cleaner, ScratchX 2.0, bicarbonate toothpaste, and all with a cloth and a mini polisher on a rotary tool - nothing is shifting them.
Any ideas on what to do next? Replacing it with an eBay one seems like it could end with the same problem already there. I expect a new one will cost a lot.
I now have the mirror off and open to suggestions, or even an explanation of what you may think have happened - just old?
