Gutted...somehow in the past few days, my bonnet has developed an 8 inch scratch, luckily not down to the metal.

Tbh, it may have been longer and I'd just not noticed - it's not far off the groove of the bonnet so may have gone unnoticed with all the rainy weather.

Id like to avoid a respray if poss, so pondering trying a touch up pen - has anyone got any experience? Any other suggestions welcome too!

touch up pens can look horrendous if not done properly..

A specialist bodyshop could fill and use a denibbing tool,then buff back.. Not easy though.
 
I agree with above - touch up pens can look worse than the scratch :thumbsdown: Depends on how bad the scratch is as to how to sort it. Can you post some pics?
 
Seriously don't go DIY with a pen or any other method unless you are sure what you are doing, done it the past and regretted it :cry:
Find a local paintless repair specialist and something like you described should be about £40-50. The alternative is just not worth it, I've had bits done on most of my cars over the last few years by a trusted local guy and the results have been 100% undetectable.
 
Didn't want a respray as I assumed it'd be a couple of hundred quid - which I'd prefer to lump onto my car loan each month.

A £50 repair seems decent though - didn't think it was that simple, so that's handy! I'll do some digging.

I'll get a pic at some point - not with the car at the mo.

Quick pic - dark, and only part of the scratch (turns out its around 15 inches long!), but will give you an idea. It's very thin for the most part - had to double take to see if it was actually a crack!

Perhaps a good detailer could get most of that out..

Or at least make it look a lot better...

I think the "£50" suggestions maybe way out,painting a full bonnet ( and thats what it would need to make it fully go) will work out a lot more than that...
 
Looks to me like that's been keyed/intentionally done. It its just the clear coat you could try and polish it up to make it look better. Failing that it's a localised repair or full panel spray.

I'd go with the polish first.
 
Dundee, there are a few places nearby. Just glad it's not really visible unless you're looking. As above, it does just look like the laquer - but now I know it's there, I'll need it fixed!
